Second kit, kinda proud of this

I've been flying for four years but only discovered the joy of building this year. I built a four star 40, and the feeling you get watching one fly when you built it yourself is pretty cool. So I built this and I'm kinda proud of it, hopefully it flies as good as it looks. Whaddaya think guys?

Very nice job.
You'll enjoy the 4 Star -- no tip stall at all. What engine do you have for it ?

I have enjoyed the four* a great deal I've powered it with an mds 40 that I haven't enjoyed at all, deadstick after deadstick. I'm thinking of a gms 47 for the somethin extra pictured, normally I'd overpower it a little more but I'm happy enough with the finish of this thing to think that I'll fly it nicely and won't need that much power.

I'd be proud too. Looks great. What a fantastic flame job!!!! Don't tell me you cut out each "flame area" by hand!! :D Seriously...... tell us more about the covering job. ........lownslo....

Uh, my eyesight isn't what it used to be, but that is either one highly-modified Four Star, or a Somethin' Extra...

No Steve, your eyes are fine.

Wheels said that this was his SECOND plane. His FIRST was a 4* that he has been flying for a while.

Wheels, that's BEAUTIFUL! I too would like to know how you cut all those flames! VERY NICE! :D

Very nice covering job! I have to ask though; after having so much trouble with an MDS, why would you want to buy another "off brand" engine for such a nice plane?

Get an OS 46FX, or at least a Thunder Tiger 46 PRO. ;)

Just my opinion of course.

Thats a beautiful job! Only someone with LOTS of patience would cut every single one of the flames by hand. Congrats! :D

Wow very nice job.
I built one of these with a boring covering job.
It was the community plane so when I stuck the decals on ,I made it say "OUR STAR"

The flames are all hand cut, downloaded a jpeg of flames off the net and used it as a stencil. All hand cut and all done in large peices there are no more seams on it than your average two color covering job, maybe less than some. the biggest problem was the paitence it took to iron on the large surfaces of the wing tops there is alot of covering ironed on covering and it was tough to avoid air bubbles

DBCherry I'm not afraid of the gms, there are alot of them in my club and so far the reliablility of all of them has been impressive. MDS on the other hand has sold me their last engine. I bought that one for my first trainer and wish I had done more research, I didn't even know I was buying a "cheap" engine when I purchased it, it was just what the guy at the shop told me I needed.

I agree about the GMS engines they are great. I have the 76 on my 4*60 and it runs great. It was no trouble to break in and flies the plane great.
