Wing twist
I found this forum about a week ago and this is my first post. Lot's of great info here. I am building an Sig LT-40. My wings are now joined and I realize that I made a mistake by not checking for wing twist before I finished joining everything. The left wing is good, both spars lay flat as does the trailing edge. The right wing is not as good. On the last 3 rib bays, the trailing edge starts to pick up. At the tip, the trailing edge is up about an 1/8" and the rear spar is up about 1/16". I would hate to tear this area apart because it does look good, but if the flight characteristics are going to be compromised, then I have no choice. Any thoughts?

RE: Wing twist
If it's only 1/8 " twist it should be possible to take that out after covering, using the heat gun and twisting the other way as you play it over the surface. Hold it twisted until the covering goes colder, and it should straighten it.
Also, if it really is only 1/8" over the whole of one wing half, I would have thought the aileron trim will trim it out on the first flight. Good luck! -David C. |
RE: Wing twist
Dave suggested that same thing I would have.
I just wanted to add... Welcome to RCU! :D |
RE: Wing twist
Thanks for the help. I just started cutting the slots for the CA hinges that SIG has supplied with the kit. Looks like I need to do a search to find a better way, and possible a different hinge. Thanks again. Bob.
