Skybolt servos?
 

I just got my Super Skybolt kit today, looks like plenty of work. My plan was to put two servos in the wing and two servos for the elevator( one for each half and match them with the radio)along with the usual throttle and rudder set up. My question is, I have two high torque servos and four standard servos(futaba s3004) should I use the high torque on the ailerons or the elevator halves? Thanks, Steve

IMHO, put the high torque in the wing (ail) and standards everywhere else. I have a skybolt with a Saito 100 twin and I have standard servos for all surfaces (2 for ail, 1 each for the elev, rud and thr. If you are using a very large engine, you might also consider using a high torque on the rudder. I also used pull-pull cables on the rudder in mine. If I remember right, the plans call for a pushrod on the rudder.

Thanks George, that was my original idea, to use them for the alierons due to the linkages between wings etc. I thought about pull/pull on the rudder as well, it will have a Saito 120. thanks again, Steve

The only thing you want to check first is the width of the servos. I am using standard BB servos all around on my skybolt, and as I recall, the ail servos damn near touch the covering on the top side of the wing. It's a pretty tight fit. If your servos are wide, they will make a bulge in the covering.

I assume your talking the GP kit skybolt. I flew one I built for almost 2 years. I had standard BB (hitec 425) servos in the ailerons. Like mentioned you cant put in a thicker servo than that, It will stick thru the covering. The standards worked fine in mine. I had a hitec 605 high torque on the rudder and one hitec 545 high torque on the elevator. I used twin pushrods one for each half and soldered them together right before the servo. Keep the servo arm sweep in the middle of the fuse and you wont get any differential in the halves. I used pull pull on the rudder. I am not a scale flyer, snaps and inverted flat spins were preformed often and I never had any kind of servo problem. Remember it is not a 3d plane, It is a reworked pitts, It will roll couple some with rudder. A great looking airplane but you sure dont need to go servo crazy on this plane

I have a Saito 120 on mine, it's plenty heavy. Use 2 servos for the 4 ailerons, but stick to one elevator servo. I use a standard Futaba s3004 and it's plenty. Save the weight.

Thanks guys for your help, I forgot how thin the wing was, your right the high torque are too wide. I'll use the high torques on the elevator and pull/pull rudder sounds like it will work out well. Thanks again, Steve
