Hellcat
I need some opinions, and since I figure everyone has one, I am open to commentary. I want to build, but would even consider an ARF, a Hellcat for a 75 2 stroke engine. About 60 to 70 inche wings. What are the best kits? I need one that flys well and looks very good. Suggestions please? The forum is open and all opinions are weighed.

You want a 60 to 70 inch Hellcat?
WingMFG makes a great kit. I have one that I am waiting to build. http://www.wingmfg.com Ted |

Also available in Marutaka kit. Depends on whether you prefer a foam wing or built-up balsa. Wing kit is foam wing, Marutaka is balsa. Check out udisco.com or hobbybarn.com for Marutaka.

I have looked at the Wing Kit. But I dont know how it flies? I am a new pilot and an old builder. I have even considered a Corsair but am not crazy about the guld wings. But I do rquire good flight in addition to the looks. Is the Wing mfg. kit scale dimensions or is it "stand off" scale?

Gary - I have not flown mine yet.. it's still sticks and blocks.
Several guys in our club say it's an excellent flyer. The box says it's a Full scale fuse and controll surface kiy (it's 1/8 scale.) Ted |

What are you going to do for retracts?

Wild Bill,
I am going to use Robart gear. I picked up the COMPLETE robart kit brand new in packages (pumps, tanks, struts, wheels, air gate, etc.) for $50.00 at a swap meet. They are the rotating units that rotate back into the wing - similar to that of the F4U. From what I have seen on the plans the tail wheel may have to remain a fixed unit. Which is kind of a bummer as I really wanted to make it retractable as well. I have seen a mechanical retractable tail wheel from Robart that I might be able to use. TRP |
