Tiger 60 Cowl

1 Attachment(s)
I am thinking about putting a cowl on my Tiger 60 and wonder if anyone has done this. I would like to mount the engine at 90 degrees to allow the muffler and exhaust to be at the bottom of the fuse and save all that cleaning of fuel off wings etc. To mount the engine in that way would mean cutting off one cheek (yikes) and so a cowl might help things look better.

Any ideas, pics, etc

This site is about adding a cowl to a Four Star 40, but the same processes should apply to your Tiger 60:

Hope that helped.

I'm in the process. Im going the "hard" route to do it. But I have never done this before and wanted to give it a try.... I wanted to fabricate a fiberglass cowl. So I'm making a plug, it's almost ready, then I will make a mold from the plug, then make a fiberglass cowl from the mold. Many steps and a lot of work. I also am modifying the nose of the fus so it will look better. Good looks was number one, so I started with the fus, making it taper out wider towards the engine. I cut off the cheeks at the fw. Then to make the plug, I started building a "box" out of balsa sections until I got the rough shape I wanted. Then started sanding and cutting until I had the final shape. Now I'm sealing it and doing a final sanding to give it a glass like finish before it is used to make the mold. I know this all sounds crazy and a lot of work for "just a Tiger", but like I said, I have never done it and wanted to take a crack at the process....

rajul,

Unfortunately they do not have one for a CG Tiger. :(

I checked first before going to the trouble of making one!

I think he was saying that you could use one of the cowls designed for some other plane.

You're going through an awful lot for "just a Tiger". ;)

I admire your commitment to learning a new process. Trying it out on a simpler design is a good idea.

Thanks for the help. I just finished bashing a cowl from a Swallow ex 90.(Pattern plane) for my Tiger60. I had to cut the top off and remake with balsa sandwiched between fiberglass. I mounted the engine at 90 degrees. Looks not to bad. I will post pics next week after the paint has dried and I have installed it.

If you know anybody with an RC Modeler magazine archive, find the September 2000 issue. It has an article on side-mounting the engine and fabricating a cowl for the Goldberg Tigers or the Sig 4*40/60.
