PT-20 Ailerons
 

Hello!

I inherited a PT-20 from my brother. He was building it as a 3-channel, but I want to add the ailerons. He no longer has the plans for it, but I did get the instructions. I need to know the measurements of the ailerons for the PT-20. It is a piece of angle balsa.

Does anyone know them?

What is on the TE of the wing now?

Basically just a long TE about 3/4 to 1" of triangular bulsa.

I was thinking of cutting out the space for the aileron and using that piece as the aileron. The box I got with it has a new piece of triangular bulsa and was wondering if it would work. So far I have done no cutting.

I have an almost completed pt 20 just measured aileron in kit it is 19&7/8 inches long, and 1 inch wide good luck don't forget about tourqe rods, and servo bay has to be constructed.

Hey! I have another question, or request.

Can you measure where the aileron begins from the centerline on the TE? Thanks. I have no plans and need to know where to start my cut.

If the wing is already covered, you'll have to at least cut away a good part of the bottom covering for this, but here's how I would do it.

First, cut the TE to form an aileron, leaving 1/8" of the balsa on the back of the wing. Then you will need to strengthen the remaining TE with 3/8" balsa blocks (These will also be needed to give the hinges something to grab on to). If the blocks stick out over the ribs, just sand them to shape once they are in place.

Now, you can either run torque rods to the center of the wing, or run nyrod out to the ailerons from the servo in the center (One servo per aileron would be overkill on such a small plane, but if you want to do that, go 4 it.)

It is not covered. I stipped it. It is a 15 year old airplane that has not felt the sky.

Good advice, for I did not know where to make the long cut on the TE. I will leave about 1/8 of and inch and add the supports for the hinges.
