SUGESTIONS FOR FLAP ACTUATION METHOD
 

HI

I am planning to have working flap on a T 28 B that i am building,i read some where that flaps can be connected to retracts servo to operate in conjunction with the retracts in order to save weight and cost one less servo,has any one tried this method and is it recommended or not....what would be the most suitable method...Will appreciate your input.

Where the heck did you read that? In the 8 years I've been at this, and reading everything I can get my hands on, I've never heard of using the retract servo to actuate flaps. [sm=confused.gif]

Setting up the control throws on retracts is difficult enough, trying to get the flaps coordinated would be a nightmare, not to mention the fact that you don't want anywhere near as much (if any) flap on take off as you would on landing.

It only takes one servo to actuate flaps, so I wouldn't bother trying what you heard.

By the way; if I'm wrong, I'm sure a dozen people will chime in here and say so. :D

Its possible of course, especially if you are using pneumatic retracts but I see no easy way that it would be worth the effort. You are tied into using flaps every landing. You could not do a wheels up flaps landing. Many other usability problems but yes it could be done.

I have to agree with the yes it could be done, but why would you want to. Getting the proper ammount of flap deflection is really important and it needs to be on a seperate channel so that it can be adjusted. As mentioned it can be accomplished with one servo, or two with a Y harness and a single channel on your radio and it is the preferred way to do it. Good Luck, Dave
