CG Eagle II kit
How accurate or the die cut pieces compared to the drawing? Im trying to pin this thing together but some pices are slightly smaller, bigger etc etc. It also looks like they changed some of the parts compared to the drawing. I look at the sheet with all the part locations on the balsa and they're name so I know I have the right pieces they just dont match up. What really bothered me was the Stab platform has a hole in it for the the rear of the fin but compared to the drawing it is about 1/8" inch off. Is it possible the kit is diffective or is this common?
Thanx in advance. |
RE: CG Eagle II kit
I built this kit as my first elecric trainer and do not remember problems like you have found. THis is not uncommon with other kits though. Eagle II is a good flyer and trainer.

Humidity (or the lack of it) can swell or shrink plans, so they are rarely "EXACT". As far as the slot in the stab, check how it fits with the Fin. Worse comes to worse, you can enlarge the hole, or trim the fin.

RE: CG Eagle II kit
Thank you for the input guys. I ended up putting together the fin with similiar problems, its about 1/16th to 3/32 thinner from LE to TE. Not a whole lot I could do about it. It almost feels like I have a Revision B drawing with Revision C parts type scenerio. I do have to admit I am really enjoying building this kit, I was up way later than I should have been, had to force myself to put the (glue) bottle down :).
Thanx again. |
RE: CG Eagle II kit
What did you do to make the fin thinner from leading edge to TE? Is that after you sanded? The wood should be the same thickness. Carefull how you sand. Not a huge deal, but many people mess up a good plane sanding too much.

RE: CG Eagle II kit
I believe you are thinking of a different dimension than I am reffering to. From the back of the fin where the rudder is attached to the front of the fin or LE is shorter. The die cut piece that goes along the bottom of the fin was smaller than the plans so I had to adjust for it. I am trying to do as little sanding as possible and what sanding I am doing I am using 320 grit so I dont take to much off to fast :). All the parts are laser cut, so I know they pieces are percise and these deviations have to be intended. If I were to guess CG re-engineerd some pieces but never updated the drawings. A little frustrating though when I hear to percisely follow the plans with no margin of deviation. If you need pics Ill take some when I get home and mark the changes.
