RE: p-38 kit??

Any kit cutters making kits for the Royal 60 sized P-38? I too am interested in a kit, however the Ziroli is too big for me. 74 inch wingspan is about the max I can deal with given my work space.

Hey Skyshark, are you listening? This is right up your alley. :)

If you need the best laser cutting done give www.lazer-works.com a try! This is the best laser cutting with the best prices bar-none! They can just about do anything if you have your own plans.

Action Ed,
Do you have any prices?
They don't have either prices or photos that I could find.
Looks like a nice portfolio of kits however.
Thanks.

RE: p-38 kit??

I am building a GP P-38 profile with foam to build up the profile booms. It will add less than 3oz to the all up weight . I am still working on making good looking cowls. I may try making foam plugs and make fibreglass molds.

RE: p-38 kit??

The GP P-38 builds a bit heavy for the wing area, you might try flying the plane before you go and add the cowls.

While we are on the subject, here are 2 lesser known manufacturers of P-38's

http://www.glhobbies.com/MAIN.htm
http://www.rcairplane.net/index6.html

Haven't done any research on the build or flying yet, any experience with them will be appreciated.

BTW I am building a Wing P-38, only comment I have on it so far is that it is a sport scale model, mainly built from flat balsa sheeting stategically carved, so perhaps not the one to get for any serious scale project.

For bigger, in addition to what was suggested above-

http://www.glhobbies.com/P38%20LIGHT/1_6P38.htm
WING SPAN 100"
LENGTH 65"
WEIGHT 12 -15 lbs
ENGINE 90 -1.50 cc

http://vicrc.com/
check out the webpage for specs

Then of course there are the Kondor Model Products and VQ Model Aircraft ARF's, if they offered the VQ in kit form I'd buy it right away! The VQ does get some decent reviews on this board.

I think the ATI-Aerotech is the only pure wood kit left in a smaller size available unfortunately.

I do have some plans for a .15 size kit I bought from RCM, and I think there are some other plans available if you want to scratch build or have a lazer kit cut, but most of them are the bigger sizes, above 100 inch wingspan.

There is lots of info about most of these kits that are still available, just as Twinman in the Twin and Multi forum he's a P38 expert, or do a search.

Hmmmm... I cant really rekomend the G&L P38. I have no expereince of the aircraft myself, but i got this from another RCU member:

[&:]

I have built the G&L P-38. In fact, the pics on their site of Olive Drab version,
are my aircraft. I have not flown it yet, but I highley recommend you run as far and
fast as you can from this kit. It's nowhere near scale without tons of mods, and
weighs nearly twice the stated weight. I built mine as lite as possible and it is still
22#. There are no detailed instructions, so you need to know all about building
before you start. I have built a lot of scale models over the last 40 years, and it was
a challange for me.
Do a search for G&L P-38 on RCU, and you find a lot of info. Several have been
started, but I don't think any except mine were finished. It is a kit for the VERY,
VERY, experienced builder with glass & foam.

Hi their, Can someone help ID this Kit?

I just picked up an old fiberglass P-38 kit at the model show. There's no plans and the elevator stab is missing but it's
made to 1/8th scale and good workmenship. The fiberglass is all hand laid. The wing is 76" and the length is 55".

Thanks...

That looks like an old D&B kit from the 70's. I have one also I intend to restore someday( if I ever get around to it ). Bob Almes competed in scale events with one of these kits back then. It might even be from the late 60's I'm not sure.

The glass kit you have is Bee Line kit made in Grandview Missouri. I ran accros an ad in the April 1969 RCM. Not D&B like I thought before. They also made a P-61, Corsair and I believe an A-26.

RE: p-38 kit??

Just a thought but how about a set of builder plans. Some of the guys in the UK may be of help here but Gordon Whitehead has some great plans for one of his designs of the P-38. I haven't seen them or built his 38 but I have built his Krier Kraft and it was outstanding!! He is also an old member of RCU and I have emailed him several times and he does answer and give you help and information. I did notice on Ebay there were several plans and templates offered, I wonder how good they are?? The prices were right!! May be worth the risk!;)

One of the best is http://www.ziroliplans.com/zirolipla..._frameset.html for plans, short kits and full kits. Not cheap but quality never is.

https://astecmodels.co.uk/plans.php I was just given a couple of sites that have the plans and templates. You can download them onto disc and have them printed.
