Covering Scheme
I just got a new kit called a PERFECTION. It a stick style airplane made by a gentlemen from Waco, Texas and it is an all around great fun flying airplane. I am looking for some ideas on schemes and patterns to cover it. Does anybody have any suggestions or pictures that may help? Thanks!!!

RE: Covering Scheme
Stick style? Do you mean, just wings and stab to cover and no fuse....(just a stick as fuse)?
I've always been a sucker for white with grey and maroon stripes. I am going to color my kit that way. Can't wait. If you can find a picture of your PERFECTION, and post it here, then you might get some good ideas. Other guys may know this plane, but I myself haven't heard of it. |
RE: Covering Scheme
I've never seen two planes alike (kits that is). I have three planes covered in white, and I will probably look at them for 6 months trying to decide on "decorations".
Monokote has a sheet showing many different color schemes, might help you. BO |

I have a method that works alright for me that you could try. What I do is draw a wing and fuse on Paint. It's an easy program for me not being an experienced drafter. I can generally get the basic shape of my model in there, and I save that. Then I color and draw all I want, and if I don't like it, I just cancel out and load up my "blank" and start over. Save several differnt schemes, and look at each one. I usually start that once I get the model, and while I'm building I'll go back to it. Here's my latest for a Great Planes Ulitimate 40 Biplane. Hours into this, and this also gives you a really good idea as to how much, and basically what colors you need to finish. Kinda helps me buy just what I need.

Boy, that's a tough question to answer because if you are apt to enjoy the covering process, then you are also prone to care what it ends up looking like! Anyways, I'll throw out some of the factors I've considered as a person who generally thinks WAY too much about the covering scheme and ends up changing his mind more than a few times before she's covered.
1. Brands- Coca-cola, Gatorade, Gap, Macintosh 2. Sports Teams- Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Fire, Anaheim Ducks, Michigan Wolverines 3. Color preferences- neons, high contrast, earth tones, military drabs etc. 4. Shape preferences- stripes, lots of angles, curves Finally, I'll attach a photo of the design I'm working on right now for my Ultimate Bipe .60. (Goldberg) Take care |
RE: Covering Scheme
Dang, Imaflyer, I wish you were closer so I could sucker you into covering my RV-4 for me. The scheme I'm doing isn't anywhere as elaborate as that, but I just hate covering and you seem to be pretty good at it.

RE: Covering Scheme
large stripes on the wing bottoms are easy to see, checkers are also nice, maybe a combo of both as you can see, just as long as the colors contrast, your only limited by your imagination. florecent greens and oranges, even though they look nice and bright, appear to not be so clear at a distance to me!

Beardking,
Thanks, but I just hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew with the Coke idea. Time will tell. I should be covering next week. Here's a sneak peek at the bottom. (It's my favorite part) |
