GP Ultimate & Saito 82?
 

I am in the process of building a Great Planes Ultimate and had intended to put a Saito 72 on it. However, I am afraid the Ultimate is going to turn out heavier than I had hoped, even after cutting additional holes in the sides and enlarging others. This is the most over-engineered kit I have built. Anyway, I am now considering using a Saito 82 instead of the 72. I like planes that have plenty of power. Any thoughts on this?

Having quite a bit of experience with THE plane you are building, and other bipes in that size and weight, I'm afraid that you may well be dissapointed with the final performance.

Realistically, it will fly, but it will not perform as it could, depending on your ability level. A 1.0 to 1.2 would be a better choice.

I have a GP Ultimate and run an old K&B .65 Sportster with a 13X6 prop and it is a blast...this plane will do anything you ask short of Hovering..In my humble opinion the Saito 72 would be more than enough for this plane..Mine weighs a whopping 8lbs 4oz but still flies nice for what I do....will roll and loop forever and lands like a dream...

I agree with Tommy, a Saito 72 is going to be PLENTY for this thing.
