Balancing a Mid Wing Plane?
 

I am in the process of balancing my Something Extra and need a little help. I am using the Great Planes CG machine and am experiencing the following. I have tried to balance it both right side up and inverted. It seems like it might be tail heavy, but when I push down on the nose, it gets to a point where it then goes all the way over and seems nose heavy. I am balancing it at 3 1/2" back from the LE as indicated in the plans. I am reluctant to put any weight on the front since it will nose over after a certain point when the tail becomes higher than the front.

Any input would be welcome.

To find the correct balance position, you must have the plane parallel to the centerline of the fuselage(a line from the center of the propshaft through the center of the back end of the fuselage). Usually the horizontal stabilizer is parallel to the fuselage centerline. I use a very light bubble level on the stabilizer to find this position. Now with the balance stand at the correct position for balancing, you will see if the plane is nose heavy or tail heavy. Add weight to balance with the bubble level showing the bubble centered.

mohawker23rd - yes, I know how to balance and use the level and what the process is. I had the same issues with my Funtana. Just a little either way, and the plane will fall the rest of the way. If you have a high wing or a low wing that is balanced inverted, this problem is not as exaggerated.
