Biplane kit for .40 fourstroke?
 

I have an O.S. .40 SurpassII just wasting away on my workbench and I need a good WWI biplane kit to put it on. Anyone have any suggestions? Who makes a WWI bipe that would fly with the .40? Thanks for all recommendations.

I think the Dreamer would work. I think it is made byGee Bee or something similar. You can get them from Tower and other sources.

The Dreamer looks pretty cool, but the specs list a .48 as the smallest recommended engine. Although most models are overpowered, we fly at a field elevation of almost 5500'MSL, so power is not what it would be at lower altitudes. I don't think the .40 would pull it too well.

I built the CeeGee Tiger Moth 15 years ago and put an OS 40 4 stroke in it. Flew terrific but had to be careful when doing non-scale flat spins.

I know the Moth is not exactly WW1, more WW2, but it's a good looking airplane with a history.

Another possible choice might be the Concept Models Fleete Bipe. I know it is not a WW1 or WW2 version but it could be a good choice
for your 40. That is the size engine they recommend for for the kit as it was originally designed for electric power but can be
converted to Glo power. I have one still in kit form and can recomend it as an excellent quality kit.

The Fleet sure looks nice. Cool history on the website. I will definitely keep that one in mind as one of the top choices! Any others?

I can't think of anything else in kit form. You may want to start looking at plans in the various magazines and look at the
possibility of scratch building something..
Let us know what you come up with.

I think this winter I will try my hand at scratch building. I think I could design and build something that would resemble an old fashioned bipe, complete with flying wires. Maybe I could just find some plans, or three-views of a real subject. I like the Sopwith Pup.

RCM modeler had a construction article of a .25 size Fokker DVII not to long ago. I thought it would be cool enlarged to work with my Saito 45.

Hobby Hangers` Se5a & fokker DVII will fly scale with a Surpass 40 as will Flairs Se5a, DR1 & Nieuport. If your not worried about scale you might find an Ace 4-40 biplane or Marks Models Se5a or DVII kit for sale, these are somewhat smaller & would be hot fliers with a Surpass 40.
