40 Size Biplane
1 Attachment(s)
I just got a 40 size biplane from a friend of mine who picked this up at a flea market. I just want some info on the plane. I don't know who makes the kit but it is definately a kit built plane (not an ARF).
The plane has about a 40 inch wing span, open cockpit and removable upper and lower wings. The upper wing is about two inches longer than the lower wing and has a slightly greater cord. There are ailerons only on the lower wing. There are no inter-plane struts or wires (no connections between the upper and lower wing). It has an aluminum main landing gear. It has a 40 size glow engine that fits nicely in the partialy enclose engine compartment. I know this is a long shot but I thought I would give it a try. Any ideas on what kit this is? I will post some pictures later. Thanks |
RE: 40 Size Biplane
OK I posted a picture of the plane. My guess is that it is an ACE 4-40 Bipe. If so, anyone got any documentation for the kit (CG, weight, throws, etc.).
Thanks |

Yup, it's an Ace 4-40 Bipe. Attached is mine. I've got the plans around here somewhere, may take till around Monday or so for me to dig them up if no one chimes in before then.

RE: 40 Size Biplane
Thanks for the reply. I was pretty sure that's what it was. I see you have a four stroker on yours. What make and size is it? This one came with a K&B 40 2 stroke (new). I had one on my first trainer over a decade ago. It was the worst engine I have ever had. I was thinking about trying it but I also have an Enya 52 four stroke that runs good. I may just play around with the existing engine since it is new to see how it runs. But I will yank it out in a heart beat if it gives me any trouble.
How does yours fly. Any good or bad habits? |
RE: 40 Size Biplane
I'm flying mine with an older OS 48 four stroke that never really seems to put out what it should, which is fine for this plane. The original plans show an OS 40 four stroke. The Enya 52 should be fine, just don't rip the wings off of the thing.
Great, gentle flying little bipe. Very stable, decent glide, no surprises. Sotos |
