Hey guys!

This is my first attempt at a kit myself,.. Heres what I got so far, tail done up, the wing is coming together, too.


First impressions of this kit were nice, I really liked the die cut parts, the hardware appears to be all there, it is all good quality.

Now, I'm very green at building, not so much flying, but I recommend this kit.

It's my first fit in a while myself - I've finished the tail feathers and the wings and am preparing for the fuselage.

I had a magnum .61 RFS for it but I won a 4*40 ARF at the last club meeting and so now it is in use...maybe I'll share it between them until I can buy another.

I need a good suggestion/tip on how to bevel the surfaces. When i used the kits directions it didnt look that good. i couldnt make it 45% just by looking at the lines i marked!

I would suggest that you draw a line down the center of the edge and then draw a line down the end of the surface that is the same width as half the width of the edge. Then sand in between that without removing the lines and you should end up with close to the 45 degrees.

thats what the kit says but i was wondering if anyone had a better method that works better

My Goldberg Eagle II had a neat jig with it.

it used 2 flat pieces of lite-ply epoxied to a 3rd piece of lite-play that had a 45 degree cut-out.

you glued a piece of sandpaper on one of the flat pieces... then just slid it across the trailing edge until the 45 degree angle was reached.

Here's what I got done on the wing tonight, my eyes are head are hurting from the CA.. so I quit tonight.

Hi,
I am building this kit also and I have a couple of questions.

In you first post 3rd picture it looks like you have the wing tube
glued in place, but no sheer webs installed? My instructions say
not to glue the wing tube in place untill step 13.

In your last post it still looks like you are missing the sheer webs
between the upper and lower spar, but your wing is sheeted?

It also looks like you did not trim the sheeting to the middle of
the spar... step 8 third sentance, and figure 2 in the drawing.

Please don't take this as flame... I just want to help...
if the wings are sheeted it will be much harder to install the sheer
webs. trimming the sheeting back is easy now, but you need half
the spar for the other sheeting in step 11 to end on.

I was trying to figure out how to upload a picture....
Maybe it was the glue! ;)
The sheeting is no big deal... but the sheer webs ad
a ton of strenght to the wing, and you need them.

This is an excellent first kit, the instructions teach you a lot and you'll be able to build many other models with the experiance you'll gain on this one.

To get the 45 degrees on the control surfaces, pick up an 11" or longer sanding T-bar and a roll of sticky backed sandpaper (or just 3M 77 spray the sandpaper to it). You'll have a much easier time sanding the bevel and you'll get better results when you sand the wing and fuse. With a short sanding block or your fingers you'll get dimples and flat spots.

GP300, it does look like you forgot the shear web, don't think you want to skip that else your wing won't be very strong.

I'd highly recommend you all add one inch to the back of rudder. Having built and flown two of these it will knife edge much better with that simple mod. I also ended up making my own landing gear so I could swing a really big low pitch prop. A .60 engine with a 13x4 wide prop is what this plane needs to perform. If you fly it with a .46 and and a 10x7 it'll be very twitchy and you'll have to keep the throws to a bare minimum. Also you can move the CG about 2 inches back from the recommended position. Experiment with the CG after the maiden and you'll see it comes alive when you move it back. I had to put the battery in the tail to get it to balance without added weight.

At least. I added 1/2". Not enough. Still fell off on the edge.

Alright... I got the sheer webs in... Now, for adding 1" to the rudder, should I add to the back of front? The wholes are already drilled for the control rod arm.. will it affect it if I add one inch to the front? Adding to back requires shaping of the bottom..

This question seems so basic I feel like I missing something here. Just cut it with an Exacto knife and sand to shape.

I would do a pull-pull on the tail and mayber on the elivator. The rudder for sure this plane does not want to knife-edge even with the rudder way out there. Hope that helps some hatch to tank would be good too.

The SE is a really good first build. Read the manual and it will tell you what you need. It'll teach you a lot of building techniques as you go.

Might I offer a rudder suggestion.... If you haven't glued the tail fin or the hinges in place yet.

I cut the top half of the tail fin off and fixed it to the front of the rudder as a counter balance... I glued a piece of 5/8" balsa across the top of the new rudder to give it some strength. When comparing this mod to just adding material to the back of the rudder the counter balance performed much better.
