Need Morris the Knife pics!

Just ordered a Morris the Knife kit and have started brainstorming ideas for covering schemes. Anybody out there have some good pics I can use to "skin over" in Photoshop? I could really use pics of the Knife in Top and/or bottom views, side view and an angled "perspective" view. Arf pics, kit built or even "in the bones" are OK.

Please, no "Ode to Billy Hell" pics! ;-)
No offense Billy...

Thanks in advance!

Tom

Tom-

If you find a good one let me know. I'm about ready to cover mine. I've searced the web exhaustively, all I can find are planes done in one color or ones that look like the ARF version.

(you could always make it look like a Longaberger basket)

Karl,

I'm impressed... you know of Newark, Ohio's famed "Longaberger Basket" notariety! You've gotta see that one to believe it... A monstrous corporate headquarters building that is a giant scale Longaberger basket! That building is actually right across the street from our club flying field. Makes ya want to fly through the basket handles, but I think they'd frown on that.

I'm not really looking for scheme ideas... that's my specialty. I'm just looking for pics of the Knife from different angles so I can take them into Photoshop and paint my own schemes onto them. Like I said, even pics "in the bones" - like yours ;-) would do since they show me where my open areas vs sheeted areas are.

My wife collects the baskets, so we've been on the tour a couple of times. I also used to fly into the Newark-Heath airport pretty often.

I've got a picture that I am using that I scanned from the cover of the manual and removed the interior design from in Photoshop. It's a profile/plan view outline. Would that work for you? Send me your e-mail and I'll send it to you.

Took my Morris Knife out for it's first flight today. Now THAT's fun. Couldn't say the same thing for designing and applying the color scheme, but I think it came out OK for my second glow-powered model.

The bottom is dark blue with 4 patches of 1" B&W checked Ultracote in four stripes on the bottom of the wing. Will get some pix of the bottom later on for a G2 color scheme.

MTK pics

KAT,

Very Nice! You really did a great job, thanks for all your pics... they've been a great help. My partner and I have both just finished getting our MTK's in the bones. Should start covering tonight or tomorrow. I've got an extremely radical covering scheme planned for mine, I'll have a total of 8 colors - possibly 9 when I'm done.

I noticed you went with the tank-in-the-wing approach per the plans as opposed to the popular external mounting approach. That's the way we wen as well. Hope I don't run into any fuel flow problems with this method, I think it will be OK.

We decided to put the hatch on the bottom of the wing and mount the servos to the hatch. We beefed up the surrounding wing structure a little and are using 1/16 aircraft ply for out hatches. So far it looks like we're still gonna come in between 4 and 4.5 pounds.

I'll post some pics soon.

Thanks again,

Tom

NEO,

Thanks, looking forward to your pics.

Hatch on the bottom sounds like a good idea. I see a few others have done it. I went with ply hatch covers as well.

I reinforced the servo rails a bit by adding gussets to the ribs, but that's about it. I put the fuel tank inside the wing and simply ran the tubing out though an oblong hole in the LE as opposed to trying to fit long brass tubes through individual holes. I did not apply the fiberglass tape to the center seam in favor of better wood-wood gluing surface. Got a set of CF gear (blue) too.

MTK Pics - Wild Thang!

Kat,

Thanks again for the pics. I've got my Knife done now and have posted some pics as promised. Click the thumbnail to see more...

It took 8 colors of MonoKote to get the scheme I wanted but it was well worth it. Now I just hope I can handle the crazy thing in the air. Guess I'll find out tonight!

Thanks,

Tom

Waaay kewl, NEO

What technique do you use for applying covering on top of covering?

When I saw the face on top, I was a bit curious as to what would be on the bottom, IYKWIM.

Now all you need is a Billy Hell / ProBro-style picture for your site.

Thanks KAT, yeah you don't know how tempting it was to do the Billy Hell photo... don't know why I didn't. Maybe I'll still take one.

Tried to take up the Wild Thang last night but it was gettin' dark. Got up for a bout 4 minutes and flamed out. No biggy, that baby just floated back to the runway for one of my best landings yet.

I think I need to give the 46FX a little more break-in time on the ground and maybe tweak the needles a little. Got a big invitational Fly-in this Saturday and want to have it tweaked by then.

NE0: I must say, that is one of the nicest ORIGINAL trim schemes I've seen. No, not your Morris the Knife but the Extra 300 on your site. Sure, it contains the Apple logo but I am a big fan of original trim schemes and if they look as good as that, well, all the better.

In case anyone is wonderign what plane I'm talking about, here's the link:

Joe,

Thanks for the compliments on the Mac Daddy! I'm very happy with the way it turned out. It was a challenging scheme for my second kit, but with a little patience it's all worth it. I just wish It didn't get slime all over it every time I fly it!

Stomper,

Trust me... our shop is not normally that organized! Two of us building in there and my partner usually has about 4 or 5 planes in the works at any given time. He's starting up on two Giant Scalers this winter... gonna get REAL tight then. Hard to find a clean square foot to work in when we're both knee-deep in the balsa.

No problem with you posting my work in the Profile Brotherhood thread... the more the merrier! What's the thread address?
