OS Max 46 LA verses FX

Hi, I am building a GP 40 size cub and have an OS 46LA. Is the FX worth the extra scratch for this application or is it just wasted money that could go to my next plane :)

That would depend on how you want to fly it. I've seen one fly with an LA, rather sluggish but real scale I would assume (never flown a full scale one :D). It had a bit of difficulty in medium-high winds.

My buddy has a .46 fx, flies it half throttle or so but it has the pickup he needs against the wind; Cub's like to float.

Mrs. Nuker is putting a Saito .56 in hers,,,,just because.

Sound like one vote for the FX, thanks for taking the time

Depends

There really is no comparison netween the LA and FX on power. With the LA it will (as said above) be very 'scale'. No hot dogging and very limited climb performance.

With the FX it would be a 'sporty' cub and IMHO a lot more fun to fly. But I'm a hot-dogger. A true scale flyer wouldn't make that much use of the extra power.

TT PRO46

If funds are an issue and even if they aren't I would vote for the TT PRO46. It can be had for about 74 dollars at Quantum Models . I truly believe these engines are every bit as good and as powerful as the 46fx. I currently have 4 of them in use and one FX, I will also be putting one on my Youngest sons LT40 once I get it built.

My 2 cents worth.

Really, I have used OS forever, they seem to flip and start regardless of how long its been since the last flight. I have never used Quantum engines, you think for the buck they put out the power? I noticed on the LA version of the OS the exhaust is only have way open, verses the FX is wide open, how does the Quantum look?

Check out the Thunder Tiger on Quantums website. I have the FX in my Midstar and the TT Pros in most other planes, I'm happy with the performance of the TT. The Pro46's we have start on first or second flip all the time. Not sure what you are asking on the exhaust question. I never considered the LA series from OS and the Pro46 is about $35.00 cheaper than the FX.

Just a few points to consider. First and formost... CLIP THE WINGS! A clipped wing Cub will still float like a dream, but it will be capable of some really cool aerobatics also. The full size wing is like trying to get a surf-board to fly (if you're not looking for scale flight)

Something else to consider in the engine dept. is an OS 70 Surpass. This engine is PERFECT for a 40 size Cub!!!!
