Building ambition
 

I am having trubble working up the ambition to work on my damn kit. (Super Sporster, by Great Planes) I think I have some A.D.D.or something I can't concintrate enough to just do it. How do I work threw this?

You have to want to fly it. If it doesn't excite you in the least, find something that will.

I find it best to break any project down into very small steps. Don't think about having to do the whole thing. Just think about doing one step from the instructions at a time.

Set yourself a goal to do 3 steps per week. A little conservative. but at least you won't burn out.

Always remember even the smallest amount of work moves you towards the completion and if you keep doing small pieces of work you will eventually get there.

Bottom line though is that this is supposed to be fun. If you aren't enjoying it, why put yourself through the pain of building.

Call up a friend who is having a similer problem, get together and help each other get over whatever hurdle is slowing each of you down on the kits, that has worked for me many times.

Wow, tough problem to handle
 

This is a toughie for me to even imagine. But if you really don't want to build, then maybe ARF's are for you. That's one reason why the ARF's are becoming so popular, and why it's even getting hard to find some planes in a kit form at all.

But here is what motivates me to build. My wife and I own our own business. We do computer/network consulting and sometimes we work 40-60 hours in what can be a very stressful environment (like when payroll is due and a server has crashed. :) ). So we both have to have our ways of releasing the stress. Mine is this hobby. I fly on the weekends, and build during the week (when I'm not swamped with the business). I have found that it is the best medicine for me to blow off steam. I get away from my own computers, turn the TV on in the background, and lose myself at the building table. It's great mental medicine to be able to just think about the plane. Concentrate on good building techniques. Watch a pile of pieces slowly come together into a thing of beauty.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that you just need to find that place in your mind where you can concentrate on building. And if you can't, then there are always ARF's (like I said earlier).

What do I do? Go looking through a plans service catalog and set up another workbench. :cool:

Seriously, I keep several projects on the go. When I get to a block on a particular model (generally, something I'm unhappy with the design of), I move on to another model on another table. When I come back to it, I have a fresh approach (and attitude).

I am also trying to organize the workspace. I have a great planes wing and fuce rack and no place to put it, :( Everything has a place in the room but it seems to allways to be in the way. I think that I will do some re-modeling to the room and replace the workbench and tool shelf,

Thanks for all of the sugestion's basically now I'm taking it one step at a time, sometimes I look ahead and see what the plane will look like when I am building and it keep's me going
