Sig Skybolt??

I have the opprotunity to buy a Sig Skybolt Kit. Can anyone give me any feedback or advice on this kit before I go dropping the bucks?? Since it is an old kit out of production I am assuming it is a builders kit(not afraid of building) How does the plane fly and will a .90 4-stroke pull it through maneuvers??
Later!!

Im looking for one also, but cannot find one for a good price. Tower has the GP Super Skybolt for $149 but, for me, that is too much for a kit. From all the things I have heard, the SIG Skybolt is a nice kit and a nice flying plane.

I still have my Sig Skybolt. It has seen a lot of flying. It is a builders kit but it goes together well. A 90 4 cycle will fly it fine, I flew mine on a 60 2 cycle with power to spare. The only issue with the Sig Skybolt is not to let it get too slow on landing, it will flat stall without warning. I have had to glue the landing gear mount back in a few times. :)

RE: Sig Skybolt??

I have the kit; its next up on the building board. Found it on eBay, but paid a premium price. Apparently there are a lot of folks interested in this kit, since the bidding was hot and heavy. I won because I screwed up and added one too many zeros to my last bid... I saw another NIB kit there not long after, and it sold for even more than I paid.

Anyway, even though I paid far too much for it, I'm looking forward to building it. It is indeed a vintage Sig "builder's kit". However, the entire top deck is a plastic part. Not sure yet if I'm going to use that, or make a former/stringer top deck. One of the custom glass shops, Stan's or Fiberglass Specialties, I forget which, offers a duplicate of the kit cowl in fiberglass.

Regarding engines, the nose on this model is rather small. A 91 four-banger will fit, but needs to be inverted for best appearance. Otherwise, the jug and muffler is gonna stick way out there.
I'm putting a 61 FSR with Pitts muffler on mine.

So, I'd buy it. Even if you decide not to build it, you can unload it easily enough.

RE: Sig Skybolt??

Hey, Swager. I was just in an lhs this afternoon and they have a Sig Skybolt on their shelf - $138.95. Their number is 513-892-1456, Hamilton Hobbies, Hamilton OH. Give them a call if you still want. I was thinking of getting it myself, but found a Hog Bipe for $99.95 at another LHS across the line in Indiana. Good Luck.
