Throttle cable conection on somethin extra
 

I am just about finished building my Sig somethin extra but am having alot of trouble with the throttle cable. It keeps wanting to fray and not go through the tube to that it can be connected. Has anyone else had this problem, if so could they tell me what they did.

You can tin the cable with solder then cut it. I find a GOOD pair of dikes will cut the cable without fraying it. Mike

Ditto, clean it, add flux, and tin with solder before cutting.

the solder will keep it from fraying

(In a pince, you could use CA instead of solder, but solder is much better)

I like to use Weed Eater line instead of cable. You don't have to worry about fraying and it won't transmit any interference to the radio. It can be placed almost anyplace and can be bent in a circle (of course, that won't be necessary).

How do you connect the brass coupler and the solder link to the weed eater line?

You don't need all that. Just use easy connectors. It's really easy. If you would like, I can take a picture and post it. I'd have to take my cowl off, but I will.

It would be great if you could post some pictures, I have heard of easy connectors but cnat quite get in a picture in my head. Thanks for the prompt reply and all of the help

Here is a picture. I tried my best with my hand held camera on macro setting. This is the best of the bunch. Look for the blue weed eater line in the middle of the picture. It goes into an easy connector on my throttle arm.

I would suggest you don't use the inter rod that came with the plane for the rudder and elevator. It is by far the worse I've ever used in 30 years. It is humidity and temp. sensitive. The slightest changes will completly un-trim the plane. Mine actually locked up on the rudder; when remove it was like a piece of spaghetti. You can leave the outer tube in place and replace the inter rod with 2-56 wire push rods. The plane flies great, good luck.

I might try doing that if i find that i have problems with the pushrods, but for now I am just going to leave them as they are because Istill won't be flying for another few months.... Damn Winter. Anyways thanks again

I second powellrc's comment on the nylon rods. You will find that they contract and expand a lot...especially in the warm weather you are waiting for. I have two SIG planes with nyrods, the 4*60 and the Somethin Extra... Well I should say they used to have nyrods. I have replaced all of them with the 2-56 rods. Got tired of retrimming...even during the same day as the temp changed from morning to afternoon. Go ahead and keep them, just remember to keep checking your trim.

Tell me about Winter. We've had 20" more rain than normal in San Diego County! I'll probably have to go back on the buddy box again, it'll be so long!
