Balsa USA Laker
Does anyone have a kit for a Balsa USA Laker? Do they fly as good as a seamaster? Maybe I could get a set of plans.

RE: Balsa USA Laker
I just built one That hasn't been flown yet so I can't answer those questions, but after the fact, I learned there are new and old versions. Mine is the older. It would have been easy to modify had I been aware of the change. The newer has the stab about 3 to 4 inches higher so that it doesn't swamp as easily. Other than that it was an easy build and I'm impressed with it. The only surprise is that it is a huge plane for a 40 size.

RE: Balsa USA Laker
I used a ST G40 on mine and it was enough to fly it and do basic aerobatics. I've heard of other fellows with more powerful engines actually having a problem with theirs porpoising on take-off. Mine was the 2nd version with the higher rear stab. Very nice in the air, actually quite trainer-like, and mostly a joy on the water. You definitely have to take steps to water seal your interior though as with the canopy done stock swells do tend to get inside. Trying to fly in fairly choppy water, I managed to swamp out my servos, which had them not doing what they were supposed to. :(
