as soon as I get it in the mail its supposed to be being shipped to me now, so I will post a update when it arrives

my kit has arrived and I was pleasantly surprised to see the previous owner had printed out a extra set of plans for building, something I usualy do so I can drip glue and make a mess all over them while building, I just finished my gear doors on my FW190A8 so its ready for paint,the Mustang is next up should be a couple of weeks and I will have a table to start framing up this kit now that it gets dark at 5 it makes building easy.

bigtim: don't just sit on it show us some pic's:cool: you make it sound like you got it from E-BAY ?????:)

I did get this kit from ebay ,I also have another one in my collection of kits, I wanted to get another stang for building and would have used the conversion kit and a D model kit instead of this special edition B kit but was lucky enough to get this one at a very good price sorry its been so long between posts but work has been crazy and I haven't had much in the way of spare time lately.

what did all of you use for a spinner for this plane ? I have a couple of the orginal 4 inch, plastic Top Flite spinners, but I hear that they expolded in the air and crash the plane. Metal or carbon fiber ??

I got one of the ARF spinners for mine, just needs a shorter bolt for my DLE20. It comes pre-painted in red and orange, so would need to be repainted to match your plane or leave as is.

acdii, how much does the ARF spinner and back plate together weigh ??

I think I will be making a power plant change, just a small one. DLE 20 rear exhaust! No need for that ugly pipe sticking out of the cowl. I have a Pitts style for mine, but the side pipe still sticks out too far. I can use the other 20 in my Corsair instead.

acdii: if you don't want any problems don't use a DLE I have seen a lot of things go wrong with those engines . for some reason the smaller
engines from DLE the kinks have not gotten worked out yet if I where you I would look at the RCGF 20

I already have a DLE 20 and it has over 100 flights on it with out any issues. The only problem I have ever had with it was the first start up, it took forever for the carb to prime. Now it starts without even having to choke it. I have no issues with getting another one, this one even survived a nose in the dirt at high speed that wrecked the plane it was on, runs absolutely fine.

10-4 on the DLE's I have 4 o them and they are absolutly the best. They were made for these 60 size planes. Both my 51 and my 40 have one and they scream. My P-47 is next.

They really are awesome on a 60 size warbird. I have a couple too. Love em.

I can finally move forward on my Mustang build. Got the wheel doors working properly. Need to just fine tune the retracts so they slow down a bit, going to try the line restrictors and see if they slow down enough without sticking. Using the valve the right one sticks and doesn't full lock up before the doors close. I need to now replace a few parts of the sheeting so its less likely to crack when lifting it and to better shape the wing for final sanding. Then I can finally glass it and put the ailerons and flaps on and finish the fuse. :)

Has anyone used a YS 91 AC on a Top Flite (1/7) P-51 kit? I'm about to buy the kit and have this engine on hand as well as a ST 90 and a 91 FX. I much prefer the sound of a 4 stroke and from what I read it may balance better without adding dead weight.

I am building mine ( just started tonight) and will use the OS 91 FX. If your FX has the needle valve mounted directly to the backplate, buy the standoff and new backplate and needle valve to make it run better...google search 91fx lean run. Do your best to keep the plane light also.

Fortunately, I have the newer version of the 91FX. I've heard of the problems with vibration induced air bubbles in the older RNV assemblies.

I know the 91 FX will power the TF kit well. I heard some people had to add weight up front to achieve proper balance. If true, the heavier YS 91AC would solve this and have that sweet 4 stroke sound.

What type of setup will you use? I'm planning a single aileron servo/bellcrank setup, flaps and I have Century Jet retracts on hand.

Weigh your 1/16th sheeting and use the lightest stuff for the tail and at the trailing edge of the wing. You are stuck with the fuse sheeting due to the finger-jointing of the sheets. I have concerns about balancing and when you have the servos in a fixed place and the pushrods are installed before the aft end is closed up, your options are kinda limited. I don't know what I will do for ailerons yet, will have flaps and most likely the new electric all metal retracts from FMS. BTW, I am replacing ALL of the balsa iin the kit withproper contest weight wood, and also replacing some plywood with balsa. I will fight for every gram and we will see how it turns out. I have started a build thread on the "other" R/C forum...something about a p-51 on a diet...
