Looking for an S.E.5a kit
Hi folks,
I'm looking for an S.E.5a kit and have been considering the Dynaflite fun scale S.E.5a. The quandry that I'm facing is that fully assembled the Dynaflite model won't fit into the trunk of my car. Does anyone have any experience with this kit with regards to removing both wings and assembling at the field? Is it feasible, or does the landing gear make removing and replacing the bottom wing a chore? With regard to smaller S.E.5a kits, what are other peoples opinions of kits in the 50" and above wingspan bracket? Thanks for the advice, Neil. |
RE: Looking for an S.E.5a kit
Well, I have a dynaflite se5a, however it's still in the box. Should get started in a couple weeks. I sure hope it fits in my car when I'm finished with it.

Balsa USA has an 80 inch . Don't know if you want to go that big.

I have both the Hobby Hangar SE-5a and Fokker D-7. Both are 50-52" span and are excellent fliers. We have a Magnum .61 4-stroke in one and a Mag .52 4-stroke in the other. Good power. Both are nice kits, although they don't have scale ailerons. We added the top ailerons.

Mindwarp,
Fun Aero has a 60" SE5a. All laser cut & much more scale than the GP kit. Give it a look at Funaero.com papermache |

That looks like a nice kit, papermache. How do you find using aileron joiners rather than four separate servos? Do you need to go specifically for high torque units?
I'm also guessing that they're out of the 'deluxe' Williams Bros. accessories, which is a great shame. Do you know of any alternative suppliers of the scale details for these kits? I've done some cursory searching, but haven't been able to find a supplier that offers similar pieces yet. Thanks, Neil. |
