Something extra covering stage
I am at the stage in the build where it states that you need to make a decision as to when you will cover the plane. They go ahead in the plans and mount all the tail pieces ect, and then cover the plane.
I think it would be much easier to cover the pieces first and then mount them. I was wondering what others have done at this point ? Why ? and would you do it differently the next time ? Thanks |
RE: Something extra covering stage
I went for the "ARF" method of covering the different parts seperatly and then remove the covering using a solder iron afterwords when gluing the tailfeathers on. Since the SSE was my first kit and covering job, I felt this would be easier to do. I would do it this way in the future too.

six of one, half dozen of the other..... meaning it really doesn't matter. I covered the surfaces before assembly on my 4* and covered them after assembly on my SE. Either way works, and you end up with the same thing in the end.

RE: Something extra covering stage
I covered mine before assembly with both my SE and 4*60. Rather than cut the covering I marked out and covered to get about 1/16" overlap.
I would definitely do the same again. Terry |
RE: Something extra covering stage
I have did just like most everyone here. I covered first, then removed what was not needed, just like on an ARF. I am building the Sig Hog Bipe now and it has a similar setup on the tail as the SSE. I plan to do it just like the SE, cover first, and then remove what you need to form a good gluing joint. It is really a matter of personal preference from what I have seen. Just as many cover first then assemble as those that assemble and then cover. I just find it easier to handle the different parts if they aren't attached to the plane.
