a freind of mine has a kit bulit .40 zero that we dont know what the center of gravity is. the only thing special about the plane is that is has an aluminum cowl and retracts if anybody might have an idea of what it is or what the center of gravity is or how to find it this would be very helpful

Interesting. With an aluminum cowl, I'm going to make a wild guess, that it's an old Royal (or Marutaka) kit.

Regardless, it's likely designed to be balanced on the spar, with the retracts up and the tank empty.
