SIG Kadet Senior Modified
 

Hi all, I'm about to start my 3rd kit as you can tell by the title it's a SIG Kadet Senior.

I plan on removing *some* dihedral and making it a tail dragger. Also going to add ailerons and possibly flaps. My question is: How much dihedral to remove and how to figure it?

The gauge is on the plan and I think I would/should move the angle to half way from where it is towards 90 degrees. Let me know right or wrong please.

I built my latest senior with barn door ailerons. Most of the dihedral needs to come out. Before I epoxied the two wing panels together, I blocked one wing tip up only two inches. You will have to adjust the angle of the root ribs according so you will not end up with a large gap.

You can certainly do as you wish, but I would not bother with flaps. Even with most of the dihedral gone, sometimes that airplane just does not want to come down. It flies like a kite with that wide flat bottom air foil.

As you build the two wing panels, save the root ribs for last. Leave the spars a little long at the root end of each panel. From the plan, mark the bottom spars where the two root ribs will go. Set the top spars, but do not glue them in until after you have set the root ribs.

Once you get both panels framed up, pin them down to your building board as if you were going to glue them together. You will not be able to bring them completely together becuse you left the spars a little longer. Make sure the panels are lined up.

Raise each wing tip off the board by placing a one inch block under the tip most rib. Install the two root ribs on the marks you made. With the wing tip blocked up the root ribs will be verticle and square to the surface of the table.

Make sure the root ribs are parallel with each other, in other words make sure they are the same distance apart.

Glue the root ribs in place. Once dry remove the panels from the board and cut or sand the spars flush with the ribs. Glue the top spars in place.

You are now ready to install a modified dihedral brace and glue the wing panels together. If done correctly, there will be no gap.

Glue the wing panels together before you sheet the wing center section so you can clamp the root ribs together along their length.

Hey! Thanks for the info. That sounds really easy. MUCH better than trying to do the math and work the angles for a gauge.

I agree with tossing the flaps as they would be over kill on this kite.

Hi... The Kadet will be one of your favorite planes. Flaps more work than they’re worth.. Done that!!! If you want to jazz it up a bit try some spoilers... way more fun.

Google search the web for “Kadet sr” as well as “sr Kadet” and you will find a ton of stuff. This kit is a classic and has been bashed in to every thing imaginable
