Just had to have one of these to play with. Does't fit with all of my WW! stuff, but the SSE looks like to much fun to pass up. I am fond of the plug in wing system, should make transporting easier in the sub compact car! Just had to build a wing carrier for fun.:D

I plan on using the magnum .46 2 stroke. I am finishing the radio now and plan on flying within the next two weeks. The motor is now in my RV-4.:D

Just call it an SSE5, then it will fit with your WW1 stuff!

Fun plane. I fly the heck out of mine with an OS 46 FX in it. I set the CG back and the thing will flip like nothin else. What a kick.

Just an idea for you! I use a spring to hold the wings together instead of a rubber band. I am using a typewriter spring cause I have a drawer full, but you can go to the hardware store and get one that will work perfect. Make sure it has enough pull on it to hold the wing on, but not enough to pull the wing into the fuse hard. It doesn't take much, but you don't want it to come off. I use springs in all my slide on wings. I like it way better than wedges or bands. Have been doing it for as long as I can remember. ;)

Your SSE looks great! Good luck with the maiden. I love flying mine, but I need a bigger engine. I'm going to put a Magnum 52 on it soon, then it'll hover. I really like your carrier too. Fortunately I have a Suburban so I just leave mine assembled all the time and transport it in one piece. I use a zip-tie (wire tie) to hold the wings together. I also used a bolt on the inside of the wing on the wing hook to make sure it never pulled out.

Here's my SE. I love the plane. I have have a OS 46 AX and it screams. Right now it has an 11x6 prop on it and it's one of the fastest things at the field. Here is the top....the bottom is over to the left.

Ok, here's mine. I finished it about 3 weeks ago. It's a blast to fly. I love it:D:D

Got an Irvine 53 in mine.

Connery: I see you're considering the Mangnum 52. I've got one on my Venus 40 and it has been 3 months of trouble getting it to run correctly. It has a horrible midrange, so hoovering could definatly be a challange with that engine. At full throttle it's a monster though, but idle and transitions are a sure recipe for a deadstick. I would spend the extra $$ and get a more reliable engine like the MVVS, Irvine or OS. Just my .02.

Heres mine :) It was crashed at a fun fly last weekend. The fusealage is pretty much wasted and should probably just be rebuilt. Only minor damage to the wings however. I have only been flying it since this fall and It only had about 50-75 flights on it. It performed great while it lasted mine it powered with a 46sf

The trick to getting the Magnums running good in the mid range is to swap the carb for an OS carb.

I've read that, however, I don't have a spare OS carb laying around thus the price of getting one would equal getting an engine with a carb that works in the first place. If you already have a 4D carb, then from what I read that should fix the problem.

I wish Magnum would fix the problem and sell the XLS 52 with a suitable carb.

I finished this one a few weeks ago and have four flights on it so far. With 2 .25FXs it's a little faster than my others that have a single .46FX. If i were to do it again, I'd try 2 .32SXs. She still flies great though.

Thanks Ken. I did explain it a little in the twin forum when I was soliciting advise on engine angles and balance. I don't want to clutter up this thread when everyone is sending in pics of theirs. Please let me know if you decide to have a go at it, I'd really like to hear how someone else did it......Damon

I went with a OS FS .72 four-stoke on mine. I had to put the batteries back close to the tail to get it to balance correctly, but it has got great performance!

I think I have had it for nearly 4 years, my flying bud and I call it 'old reliable'. It is easy to start, runs great, is easy to fly, and lands really nicely. I usually grab it on the way out to the field, because it seems like if everything else goes wrong, the SSE always works well(knock on wood).
