Missing Stuff
 

Is it unusual for a kit to be missing pieces?
I just got my first kit a Goldberg Tiger 60. As i get ready to start building the first part asks for a 3/8!QUOT! x 1/2!QUOT! x 28!QUOT! piece of balsa the manual says i should have 5 of those. I just cant find any at all. nothing i have matches the one in the plan or has those measurements. Should i bother sending back or try find a replacement? I don't know like i said this is my first kit and its really driving me insane.

i guess I'm just venting trying to keep the little bit of sanity i have left.

[8D]I have had this happen to me a few times.
Just give them a call if they have an 800 number
or send them an email. If the company is worth
anything, they will send you the missing parts
immediately. If not, get your money back.

I bet the sticks were rubber banded together and your box missed getting the bundle. Somewhere another builder is scratching his head wondering why he has 10 sticks when the book says he should only have 5.

First, you should 'inventory' the entire kit versus the parts listing that is usually at the front of the manual or on a separate sheet. Also look for badly warped wood.

Call or email them and explain what the problems are. Calling will likely give immediate results, email will likely take considerably longer. Everything I've read or heard about Goldberg indicates they will do everything in their power to make sure you have a complete and good kit. My guess is that you'll have a package on your doorstep in a very short time.

Call Goldberg and explain the problem. They should take care of the missing pieces with no problems. They are a good company with good customer service.

What I do when I start a kit is I sit down and inventory everything. I label and separate all the cut pieces, and them put them in ziplock bags separated into fuselage, wing, tail, and misc. I then inventory all of my sticks and flat pieces. Make sure you measure EVERY stick and board because sometimes you will get the same size sticks and sheets in differing lengths. Now the important part is to label all of your sticks and sheets so you won't mistake them later. Later in the build when you start cutting from those make sure you cut at the end not labeled first, that way the piece stays labeled until it's gone.

If I find anything missing when I inventory I call immediately and take care of it with the manufacturer.

Yeah, kit makers make mistakes, too. All the good ones will fall over themselves to get you fixed up. But that's why I have the stock of wood that I do. As long as it is stick or a little sheet stock, I just replace it out of my stock and drop the maker a line to the effect that they had a an error, to help them track QC. But it's pretty rare to be short much. Usually it turns out to be my mistake.

Plus I replace a fair amount of wood in kits with lighter ot straighter stock, depending on the quality of the kit.

Its not common to have bits missing but it does happen. In all of my Great Planes kits all the parts have been there but in my Sportsman aviation floatplane kit I had the servo tray, motor screws and various pieces of hardware missing.

My chipmink kit was missing an entire sheet of parts. It was an old kit from Ebay. I called Goldberg and they shipped me the sheet. Later I realized that I had TWO of a different sheet that only required one. I guess someone got mixed up when packing the kit at the factory. It happens.
