Help!!How to get this motor to fit Sig J3 Cub
 

I just had to get another Cub and having an OS 48 Surpass that needs a home I got the 1/6 scale Sig Cub. I liked the size of this plane and figured it to be good for this motor. A thread that I was following today got me to check the motor against the plans for fit/size. Has anyone built this kit and managed to fit a 40 size 2C or 4c into this plane? It looks like I need to move the firewall back 1 1/4 -1 1/2 " back. I'm wondering if this can be done by shortening up the sticks that make up the nose of the fuse and maybe mounting the cowl a bit forward or???. I'd really like to use this 4 stroke and may have to return the kit for another more suitable one but would like to make it work if possible. Seeing as how this kit has been around for some time I'm hoping someone else has encountered this and has some good advice.

Mount it sideways with the cylinder head sticking out to the right side.

Yes I built the plane last year. I mounted a OS 40 4 stroke inverted in mine. I moved the firewal back about an inch and a quarter and kept the same location for the prop. Balance was right on the money. This plane loves the 40 size 4 stroke and it makes a great combination. Use the supplied cowl.

Norm, I recessed the firewall in my 1/5 scale Sig in order to mount a .65 Saito. So the cowl would still have enough "coverage", I left the sides of the fuse normal, and just recessed the portion of the firewall the engine mount attached to. I had to 'sheet' across the top to hide the opening there, but it worked fine, since I had planned to use aluminum sheet to mimic the metal portion of the full scale Cub. If you decide to go with a sideways mounting, the method I used should still work:
