Mini-telemaster nitro engine?

i have bought a mini-telemaster kit and have it half built. i would like to put a small nitro engine instead of the speed 400 that is suggested by hobby-lobby could somebody give me a suggestion as to what size would work best. I'm thinking this will be a good trainer for my son who is 10

thanks

RE: Mini-telemaster nitro engine?

I think a Norvel .061 would probably fly it fine, but it would probably need nose weight to balance properly. Mine needed 1/2 oz on the firewall(electron-wall?) with the recommended brushed motor setup. To play it safe on power and balance, the Norvel .074 would probably be a better choice. If you don't like Norvels, an OS .10LA would work well, as a Thunder Tiger GP .07 would also. These last two choices will have less power, but may be less finicky than the norvels.

i am thinking of building a second one and running a magnum .15, do you think it will be way over powered?
