LT-40 build, hinge gap ???'s

I am about to finish my kit, an LT-40. I was installing my rudder control rods/servos tonight, and I noticed that the bottom CA hinge on the rudder had come loose (either forgot to glue it in, or it just didn't bond). I glued it back it. However, I noticed that there is now a 1/8" gap between the bottom of the fin and the rudder.

Since I have never built a kit or ARF, I have to ask this question. Is this too much of a gap for this trainer? I would hate to have to cut the rudder off, cut new slots, and install new hinges. However, I sure as heck don't want all of my hard work and time to end disasterous because of a failure of a rudder.

What say ye?

I am assuming that this is a Sig kit. If you can't get your fingers between the rudder and fin, you should be OK!!!
Seriously, an eighth inch gap won't make much difference other than looks. The LT-40s are excellent flying planes and are not sensitive to things like that. You have picked a good trainer. Press on.

rryman's right, it won't have much affect on how the plane flies. But consider ironing a strip of covering over the fin and rudder, so air can't get through the gap. One side only is fine. The only thing I'd worry about is flutter, coming out of a loop or something. Sealing the gap will reduce the likelihood of any problems.

Great, thanks! I think I might iron some covering on one side, just in case.

Thats your best bet(sealing with monokote). If you need help with it give me a hollar.

If this much of a gap were on the elevator or ailerons, I'd say fix it. On the rudder, on this plane, leave it.

I'm with DR1Driver on this one.

Sealing it certainly won't hurt, and if it were an Aileron or Elevator I might be concerned, but for a Rudder on a trainer, no prob.
