Topflite Elder Biplane

Anyone out there with a Topflite Elder Biplane? I'm looking for any comments or pictures. This is the kit that comes in the red box, pre-gold edition kit. If I can find one, this looks like a great winter project. Thanks

I've never seen the older one, but if memory serves right, I dont think its a bi-plane. Its a mono wing. The new one is supposed to be a re-release. Can see a picture on the tower or top-flite site.

Thanks Edwin for your input. But there is definitely a biplane version of the Elder. There's a manual on Topflite discontinued kits web page. I think is more or less exactly the same a the monoplane but with about 1400 sq inches of wing. I'd still love to see some pictures of a completed kit if someone has one.

Then I stand corrected. Would be nice to see a picture.

skyman. I have this kit which I bought from Tower Hobbies through a scratch and dent sale about ten years ago. There is a review in July 1990 RC Modeler. I plan on building it this winter and using an OS .91 4-stroke for power. The C of G has been moved to the main spar January 1991 RC Modeler, Bill
.

maac... any chances that a copy or two of the plans could be made before you build?

Since it's so long out of print they're kinda hard to find and I wouldn't mind trading -- or buying if we had to deal that yucky money stuff :)

(BTW, if anybody's in desperate need of Elder 40 plans -- the monoplane -- I do have those in my collestion)

I've just started building this model, it should be interesting to follow the constructions of both models showing each other the progress. Do you agree?

Hello; I had that modl for years, I gave it to a fellow flyer and have enjoyed it many times since then. The Bipe version is a great flyer, not very aerobatic but an enjoyaboe flyer for a relaxing spin around the patch. I likely have an old picture of it but I think I' ll just wait until I see it the next time and get a pickture, and post it then. I think he has an old OS 90 4s in it.

I enjoyed very much your message! I've just started the construction and I hope to finish it in a couple of months. I'm going to mount a Supertigre .75 2 stroke that I already own. Please, find out some pictures of your model, I'll be glad to see and put them in my model's gallery!

I have one of those red box kits still in the box. I remember reading a few stores in an IRC list way back and they all seem to agree on one thing: the CG on the plans is wrong and the plane would be tail heavy if followed.

Great! Many thanks, you kept the promise. I was very slow building my Elder bipe (I was busy with other models!) at the moment I have to complete the wings.
Bye, Al

You understand, I'm very interested about the CG of the Elder Bipe, I'll ask the help from the former builders

Does anyone have a PDF of the Elder Bipe or the Elder 20. Or a set of plans they no longer need, or could copy?.

Thanks, Pat

Yes Pat, I've finished building my Elder Bipe, I only need to cover it. I don't need the drawings any more, so I can send them to you if you give me your address. By, Alf

Hi Pat, just this morning I sent the drawings by mail, I think that you'll get them in two/four weeks. Please let me know.

Alfonsaccio,
I Thank you Very Much!!!

I look forward in building it.I have wanted to be this plane for years. I will tell you when it gets here.

Thanks again, Pat

This is an old thread but instead of starting a new one I will use this one to ask if anyone can supply me a copy of the plans for the Elder Bipe, are at least full scale drawings of the interplane struts. I picked up a built one at an estate sale but it does not have the interplane struts. (The ones out on the outer part of each wing.). I would perfer the plans of course because there is a lot of information on them I might need as I put this plane into flying status.

Place on a table and prop the tail up as if in level flight. Drop a weighted string from the leading edge of the top wing and the trailing edge of the bottom wing. The distance between these two strings is your Mean or effective cord. Your CG should start around 25% of that figure. Mark it back from the leading edge of the top wing. I suspect you'll eventually end up around 28-30% but start with 25 and adjust from there.
