Looking for kits and reviews
Too knock out several birds with one stone (and too not have several different threads) I decided to put all of my questions into one thread. I was wondering if there are anybody who has kits or plans of an Ercoupe for .15-.25 size? I like the looks of this plane and its flying characteristics but can't find anything other than the Balsa USA 1/3 scale.
Next, in the February 1992 issue of RCM, they reviewed the RCM Terrier( plan #909). It is a nice looking plane and the plans are cheap, only $8, but I was wondering if anybody has built one or has reviews for it. I will be building a Pronto Supreme that was reviewed and had a construction article in the January 2005 issue of Model Airplane News. I was wondering again if any of you have built or can offer another review of this plane. You have probably noticed a trend by now that the planes I am looking at are in the .15-.25 range and are classics. I have made very good friends with a sailplane buddy of mine who has just about every issue of RCM and MA. I have been reading through several of the older magazines, hence the reason why all of these planes are outdated. I enjoy the older kits very much and the looks of them. I have only built one kit so far, the Hobby Lobby Mini-Telemaster that I will be putting a Magnum .15 in it. I can't wait to fly it. I have enjoied building so much that I am a kit only guy. I like this engine range for two reasons: 1) relatively cheap and not quite so big which makes building time less and can fit better in my room and car and 2)the only glow engines that I have (one magnum .15 given to me and an HB .25 that I bought for a good price and was fairly new) It seems that there are not many kits still available or not a good variety. It is also very hard to find information on many older kits and plans. Could anybody provide some help for this? Thanks! Also feel free to post pics of any kits or sratchbuilts you have done, I would like to see what you guys are doing to inspire future projects. Thanks! -Chris |
RE: Looking for kits and reviews
Chris,
Sorry I have no info on the first couple of questions but I too like the planes in the .10 to .25 size. I have had the most success finding out of production kits either here at RCU or Ebay. I have obtained a Marks Model Sunny (.15 powered Bipe) a Parker Pelican ( .10 powered low wing sorta homebuilt looking) and several plans as I like to scratch build. You are right though, not many kits in this engine size. As a matter of fact compared to ARF's there are not many kits in any size![:o] Do what I do. Look through the old RCM's. Find a kit that interests you and do a search at RCU or Ebay. I get emails from ebay when a kit I am looking for comes up for sale. |
RE: Looking for kits and reviews
I'm afraid you're going to find the .15 is WAY too much for the mini Telemaster. A friend of mine tried a .15 in a Herr Cub, which is probably a heavier airframe, and found the engine torque made it uncontrolable above 1/2 throttle. I'd stick to something like a .061 or maybe a .074 Norvel as a maximum for this plane. I have one myself I plan to use an .049 norvel in.
