Hog Bipe into a monoplane?
Through a series of unfortunate incidents, I am left with the parts for a hog bipe fuselage and one wing. This got me to thinking, has anyone out there made a low wing monoplane out of a Hog Bipe? I realize I could just buy an Astro Hog, but what fun would that be?
I'm thinking that I could extend each wing a few inches and add in a few ribs to increase the wing area. Perhaps swap out the balsa spars for something a little stronger? Would this work? Any comments would be appreciated. |
RE: Hog Bipe into a monoplane?
How about just scratch building another top wing and fly it as a bipe again? It would be about the same amount of work.

The "Hog Bipe" is a spin-off of Sig's famous "Astro Hog" which was one of the most sucessful first Bipes back in the 60's (That's where the name "Hog Bipe" came from)
It's basically the same fuse with a 71" wing |

If you could find out how much he extended the wingspan that would be great. As for ribs, I figured I could just add a few more at the same spacing as the existing ribs. Thanks all. RE: Hog Bipe into a monoplane?
There is a guy that picked one up at a auction and the top wing was a mess with a nice twist in it too so he decided what does he have to lose, He got it cheap so he just put the bottom wing on, changed the CG and let her rip.:D Flies well too but is a bit faster than it would have been with more wing area (higher wing loading) But still flies great. Building the Hog bipe myself but plan to keep both wings.
