Biplane
I am looking for a 60 size biplane. I would like to hear your thoughts on which one is the best.

RE: Biplane
A lot depends on your flying ability
A sig Pig (Hog Bipe) is a good choice for a first bipe, but if you're an advanced flier, you may want to opt for a GP Skybolt, or any of the excellent 60 size Ultimates |

ORIGINAL: dannafinance I am looking for a 60 size biplane. I would like to hear your thoughts on which one is the best. It's ditributed by Hobby People, prices run from $199- $230, depending on whether it's on sale. |
RE: Biplane
OOPS! Forgot we were talking "kits". What Minn says is right on, both good planes, and would be great builds. (but if you go ARF, think about the above, too)

RE: Biplane
Can't go wrong with how a Balsa USA Pheaton II bipe flys too :)

I own all the kit you guys mention and I must say that building the Phaeton was extremely frustrating and ths GP Super Skybolt extremely relaxing, everything fits and the plans and instructions are great.
My favorite bipeplane is the Skybolt, awsome flying machine if power properly with a good 4 strokes how it should be. The Ultimate and Hog Bipe are also a nice build and a nice flying airplanes; as with any bipeplane you must, I repeat must fly it down when landing, you must keep some power until the plane touch the ground, no much glide envelope with a bipeplane. |
RE: Biplane
I agree with jucava. I'm building a skybolt now and this is the best kit I've ever done. The plans/instructions are very detailed and easy to understand. Unlike most other bipes out there, the skybolt has "curves". Not really an square edge on it. Very sexy:D. It is also my first bipe so I was glad to see it modeled in realflight G3, so I could practice on the simulator while I build. Can't say enough good things about it. Hope this helps.
Final Note: With bipes, smoke systems and 4 stroke should be standard. Mods |
RE: Biplane
I have had a Sig Hog and let someone talk me out of it. I have wished I had it back every since I sold it. I also have a Sig Sundancer. What a biplane!!! I am looking for a winter project. I will probably get another Hog or a skybolt unless someone has a better idea.

RE: Biplane
How's the Sundancer behaves?
I know it's not a kit, but is good to know. |
RE: Biplane
It is great. I have a Brison 3.2 on it. It is very aerobatic. No bad tendencies. It will glide forever. I had a dead stick the first time I took it out. I did not think it would make it back to the runway, but it not only made it back but over shot the runway. I have never seen a biplane glide like that. The only complaint is the landing gear is not quite heavy enough for the plane. After a day of touch and goes I have to take it gets a bit flat. Other than that it is the besst plane I have ever had.

RE: Biplane
I gona have to get me one
|
RE: Biplane
You will not regret it. It assemble fast and everything fits together nicely.

RE: Biplane
One more note worth mentioning on the GP Skybolt...
It has THE best strut attachment system ever! Two bolts hold the bottom wing in place, the top wing slides onto the center cabane, and then the end struts slide and lock into position. Setup and break down time is kept to a minimum! I wish EVERY Biplane on the planet used this system! |
RE: Biplane
That is so Truth, it takes less than 5 minutes to put it together, no other biplane come even close.
|
RE: Biplane
Another vote for the Skybolt. Love it!

RE: Biplane
I have the great planes super skybolt. IT IS A GREAT flying plane. I put a AO 120 on it. vertical take off in 3 feet of runway...

If you can find one, The Pica Waco would be a good choice. It's not a complicated build, but it is a time consuming project.
Mine flies well with an old OS 91 Surpass, so a 60 2 stroke should be fine. |

Skybolt. One of the best lines on an airplane. As mentioned, great building kit, but a lot of building, two wing you know! If you build it watch the weight, the fus. is fully sheeted, plane comes out heavy.
