need help finding correct size pilot.

I have looked at all the Williams Pilots. I need a sportsman style pilot, 4" high and 4" at the base for my relitively narrow "open cockpit" 4* 120. The width is becoming the problem.(I used the back 1/3 of the canopy for a windshield). I have looked on the Tower,Omni,Hobby Lobby, and Horizon sites with no luck. I may have to check out Toys Are Us ??? My exaust will be out the bottom but the pilot probably still should be fuel proofed. If I get one I have to paint with the enamel paints, can I spray clear Lustercoat over it??? Do you guys have any favorite sources, ideas, OR a specific sportsman style pilot in mind that you may be using.
(4" high x 4" wide... the depth is not an issue).. thanks.... lownslo

call Don's Hobby Shop.

They have real nice prepainted pilots in various sizes. I don't know if the paint is fuel proof, but they will.

In the past, I have had very good luck with using a clear butyrate dope airbrushed over the painted pilot (the method of choice for direct exposure to fuel or exhaust). In apinch i have used either gloss cote or dull cote lacquer to cover the enamel paint on pilots that were not directly exposed to fuel or exhaust. The advantage here is that it is available in a spray can if you are not into airbrushing.

If the shoulders are too wide and they are hidden under the canopy or cockpit sides, they can be trimmed on the hard plastic pilots. On the soft latex pilots, the shoulders can be tucked in a bit and then glued to the base
