RE: First kit to build!

Εm,as i saw you use in your's an OS 70 Surpass!
How about power and vertical ability?

RE: First kit to build!

I think an OS .50 would be the best choice. If you like 4 strokes, a Saito .82 would really be fun! If you want to save a few bucks, I've had great success with my GMS .47 They're about $65 from Tower

RE: First kit to build!

Sorry,but i don't prefer these engines.
<<It is not regional, but i just don't want them close to me>>,as another rcu member told me!
Also, you mean OS 52 FS Surpass.
And what about the 46 AX or even the 61 FX?

RE: First kit to build!

If you like OS you choose between (Dont know about the 61fx):

Twostroke:
46ax
50sx

Fourstroke
52fs
70fs

Yes I runt the .70fs and it's got more power than I need. Plane takes off almost immediately and can continue straight vertical.
The .70 is absolutely all you need for any type of flying IMO, but I guess a smaller and cheaper Twostroke will also do the job.
Make a search on "SSE" or "Somethin'" here on the forum and you will find hundreds (if not thousands) of posts concerning everything about the SSE.
When you read some of it you will get an idea what engines are mainly used on this plane and what performance they give.

As I said, the good part of using one of the mentioned twostrokes is that you can run a 11 or 12 inch prop. This mean that you can use the stock landing gear.
Althou my .70 can be run on a 12x8 it gives to much speed and a 13" prop is desired = need a new, higher landing gear.

If I were you, choosing from OS and mainly twostrokes, I'd go for the 50sx or 46ax.
One of tese engines will give good power, fit in the stock engine mount and need no landing gear modification... Plug and Play

RE: First kit to build!

How's it going?
I ordered a second SSE today together with some Oracover from the German Hollein company.
As I placed my order I remembered that you will need some servo cables to install the wing servos in the SSE.

You need two extension cables, 10-15cm is OK and one Y-cable. (Y-cable is not necessary if you have extra ports on the reciver and computer radio for mixing, but it's easier to use Y-cable).

RE: First kit to build!

Yes,i will place my order within the next days.
Also i ordered the Tower Uproar 40 kit.
What do you think?
I am planning to built the uproar first,to take an experience of building, before going to build the SSE kit!
;)

RE: First kit to build!

You can't go wrong with a Uproar. I've had 3. I crashed the 1st one, traded the 2nd one and am still flying the 3rd one. The only things I would do is strenthen the center section where the wing slides through the fuse, sheet the inside wing bay, and throw away the main landing gear as they are crap. Replace them with .40 size aluminum or fiberglass. A plain .OS LA .40 will fly them great. Good luck.

RE: First kit to build!

Em,yes but do you have any pics of your mods?
Also you think that an OS 46 LA has a lot of power?
i have an OS 46 LA installed in my trainer, and i think it is the most reliable engine i have ever seen...;)

RE: First kit to build!

Well actually thats what I have in my 3rd Uproar. (OS .46 LA). Sorry I don't have any pictures but you can search the forums and I am sure someone does.

RE: First kit to build!

Also, with the OS 46 LA it has unlimited vertical?
Also, this engine has enough power to hover the plane?

RE: First kit to build!

I have no idea about the Uproar40, never even seen one, hopefully others will chip in and help you along.
(My SSE shipped today :) )

RE: First kit to build!

Hi Test005.
Also will you help me with building of the Uproar?
Even if you haven't seen any of them,i think you have enough experience to answer my professional(...:D) questions!

Test005 01-17-2006 07:58 AM

RE: First kit to build!

Sure thing, I will do my best to help you along.
Basic building should be the same no matter what kit you build.
When you start building you can make a building thread in this forum where you post pictures and progress.

RE: First kit to build!

OK!
In some days i will have it.

RE: First kit to build!

Vertical performance is good but not unlimited. It will hover a little but in order to do so you need to set your cg to be slightly tail heavy. ( Be careful in making your plane tail heavy as it will make it very sensitive.) Adding an extra inch to the rudder also helps.
