Overwhelming desire for a bipe!

I am in Iraq right now and wish I were home so that I could go flying but that's still a ways away and when i do get back we will see how much a Ky winter lets me fly LOL. But I have a Super Sportster and my dad is getting me a Funtana 40S which I plan on mounting a Saito Fa-82a on. But as things go you can never have enough planes and I was thinknig that now hangar is complete without at least one bipe. So looked in my Tower Hobbies catalogue and the only .40 sized Bipe I could find that was in my price range was the Great Planes Ultimate Bipe Kit. I haven't built a kit in a while and considering I probably won't have much time to fly during the winter what better time to get a kit? So now my question is, if you have an Ultimate Bipe could I please get some reviews and feedback on building tips and things. Also I plan on putting an Arizona Flag color scheme on it so I would like some hints on how to make it look right! I plan on the front half of the wing being blue with the copper star in the middle then the rays going out from there. Anyway, if you read all that please reply LOL Thank you very much!!

The Great Planes Ultimate is a great plane to build and fly. The instruction manual is the usual Great Planes excelance and if you follow it step by step, no problems at all. Flying the plane is a snap and it will do most everything you want it to do. As for your covering job, that depends on your abilities and desires. Most any scheme can be applied, but it can be time consuming. Appling covering is also a skill that is learned as you go. Now as for you being in Iraq and not at home, Thanks. Feel free to contact me with any questions or if you just want to chat, Dave

Are you looking for a scale bipe or just "a" bipe?
I just stumbled on this site and it looks like a neat idea.

You could even design your own, based on the same principle, if you want a different look.

This looks like a nice kit.

Thank you for your service in Iraq.

You better look at this one too. It shows how to make a cool flag.

What are you doing in Iraq?

I would have to agree with Dave. I am in the finishing stages of this build and it was my first build. Everything went together so smoothly. All of the parts just popped out with minimal sanding. Everything built straight as an arrow and lined up perfectly with no tweaking. I would highly recomend this kit to anyone.
I am building mine pretty much stock with a simgle high torque aileron servo.
Good luck!
Thank you for protecting our freedom!

I'm a Cav Scout on the outskirts of Baghdad. Thank you all for they informative posts! I feel quite a bit more confident about my scheme coming out right now. Is there a way to put Monokote overlap together BEFORE you put the pieces on the airplane? Thanks!

I have an old slidding glass door I sometimes use when I don't want to over lap the covering on the plane. I just cut out A paper template first then cut out the design and make about A quarter inch over size on anything that is going to over lap then put the colors together on the glass and it peels off quite well. Then I just cover the areas with these pre made sections. It works out well if weight is A problem. I only use Ultrcote covering, Easy to work with and I get less air bubbles due to the less heat it takes plus it takes to the sun better then other coverings. If weight isn't A problem I just layer the covering on the plane. The method sounds harder then it really is.
Keep your head down and watch where you step!!!!!!!:D

Hey Graybeard thanks! Yeah the only reason I want to make the overlapped pieces is because the rays are big pieces of Monokote. I was trying to avoid weight because the plane is kind of heavy to begin with. I think I will start off with a .46 from T.H. and then once I get used to it like that try the Saito 82 I am getting for my Funtana. Would it really make a difference going with the insignia blue base and adding the rays over top?
