I used the brass tube (sharpened) as a drill bit to run a pushrod from the tail of the plane (through the rear formers) to the rudder servo.

I tried to take it out last weekend, but the (cross)winds were so bad it kept picking the tail up and flipping it. SO I never got it off the ground. I think I need to reduce the height of the tail wheel and possibly move the mains forward a bit. I may get to try again on Monday...

I'd also like to see how others have attached a tail wheel to this plane.

As far as the plane, it's holding up great. I've flown it several times and I love it. It looks better and it might be my imagination, it seems to fly better. I may have changed the CG a little bit in the build process. As far as strengthening the tail, I really didn't do anything. I just screwed the tailwheel into the bottom of the fuse, backed the screws out, put some CA inside the holes, and put the screws back. I always try to take up the majority of the weight on the main gears when I'm landing, so it hasn't been an issue (yet [sm=wink.gif] Let me know if there's anything else you want to know.

Here are some pictures:

Can I do these mods on my Hobbistar 60 select trainer? We have a pretty rough grass field and I'm sick of rebending or replacing the front landing gear.

I don't see why not. Just make sure that you get main gear that can handle the weight. Good luck!

Ron, which gp tailwheel did you use on yours?

Ronnie, I used this one, a [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFV47&P=0]Sullivan Tailwheel[/link].

I cut the tail open (saving the piece) and put a hard block in the inside, then glued the piece back on. Mounted the tailwheel to that and have been using it as a free spinning, didn't want to get into hooking it up. i guess you could if you ran a 2/56 rod down from the rudder, or bent up the little springs that come with it. and no luck on pictures yet, still tryin! good luck,

Ron
