UltraSport 40 Wing Saddle Question

1 Attachment(s)
I am building an original kit of the UltraSport 40.
I have a question about how the wing should fit into the wing saddle.
If you look at the picture you can see a fairly even gap between the top of the wing, and the wing saddle; Im assuming that this gap is necessary for the wing saddle tape.
Now if you look at this gap in the area of the trailing edge of the wing you can see that there is NO gap at all.
Should there be a gap at the trailing edge also?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much,
Ryan

RE: UltraSport 40 Wing Saddle Question

I haven't relied on wing tape in a very long time to compensate for an ill fitting wing. By your picture it looks as though the wing dowel is too high on the leading edge or the wing dowel hole in the bulkhead is too low. If either is the case, post and further help will be there for you.

RE: UltraSport 40 Wing Saddle Question

I believe that the key is - Is the wing incidence correct?

I have an Ultra Sport 60 that I built from a kit a few years ago, and for that plane they showed how to make wing fairing to blend the fuselage and wing to each other. Is that included in the 40 size? If so, and if the wing incidence is correct, you will be able to eliminate - or make very small - any gap that's there now.

Absolutely true, if the wing incedence is correct the way it stands now, the thing to do is either build a fairing or fill in the gap between the fuse and the wing with balsa for a tight fit.

Read this article from Cafeenman. I'm planning on using this approach for my next build.

RE: UltraSport 40 Wing Saddle Question

Thank you for the replys.
I have checked the wing incidence, and it is correct.
I will fill in the gapped area as advised.

Thanks again
Ryan

P.S. The article was helpful as well.
