First kit, don't know some pieces
this winter I got a cheap kit from the hobby store, it's a Direct Connection R/C "Advance .40". I got it for $32 and I figured I can't go wrong with buying it. Anyways this is my first kit I've built and the plans suck in my opinion. The first thing I don't know what it is is the "inboard sheeting". Next are the "cap strips". It just briefly mentions those and doesn't show pics at all so I don't know what it is. the next pieces I'm wondering about are the fuselage stringers and bulkheads. I think these are just strips inside the fuse but these directions suck so I'm not sure.
I'm going back to work on my left wing so if you have pics that'd be great! I'll be back in a minute to check, thanks guys! |

Poorkid, I'm drawing up some illustrations for you. Will post them in a few minutes

RE: First kit, don't know some pieces
poorkid,
Since this is your first kit, you're not a very good judge of the plans/instructions quality. The DC Advance is NOT a beginner's plane or kit, and therefore the builder is assumed to know some basic things about R/C planes and their construction. You should possibly put this kit aside until you've completed something more simple. Cap Strip - A piece of balsa glued to the edge of the ribs, with the grain running lengthwise. It serves to stiffen the ribs. Inboard Sheeting - I'll assume this is referring to the sheeting on the center of the wing. Stringers - Balsa or hardwood running lengthwise along the fuselage, sometimes forming a turtledeck of reinforcing the fuselage sheeting. Bulkheads - Balsa or ply inside the fuselage, placed across it at different spots to keep the fuselage form and strengthen it. Dr.1 |

I figured this kit was not a beginner kit... I think some of the illustrations lack clarification still. I know that a lot of this kit I was expected to know, that's why I'm asking though. Thanks for your input. Still working on the left wing.

Between DR1's post and this pic, you should get a pretty good idea

What is the name of that plane in your 2nd picture (the one on the right). Looks like very nice construction. |

poorkid,
You might be lucky and have a LHS where the people actually know what they're doing. You might try taking the plans to them and asking some questions. Dr.1 |

What is the picture on the left? Looks like a full size RV-6A

Dave, that's a picture of the Great Planes "Rapture" Kit that I swiped from their website.
http://www.greatplanes.com/airplanes/gpma0220.html It looks like a great intermediate plane like the Tiger or 4* |
