Nobler

If anybody wants to get their hands on the dis-continued R/C version of Top Flite's Nobler, give me a PM. I have found one sitting on the shelf of a Hobby Shop about 40 minutes away from where I live. As much as would love to have this Nobler, I haven't the time, the extra money, or the skills for this kit. I've been told by my Dad who was a Scratch/Kit builder for well over 40 yrs that the Nobler can be a tuff build. He built a few of the C/L Noblers back in the day. This kit isn't available any more & is too nice an airplane to be collecting dust on a Hobby Shop shelf, so if you want it get in touch with me & I'll put you in touch with it. This shop has no website but I would be more than happy to talk to him & see what it would take to get it shipped. The price on the kit is $119.99 + Ca. Taxes ( I assume )

RE: Nobler

I've built and flown several original Top Flite RC-30 Nobler kits. All were a challenge when radios were made by Kraft and Orbit. With airborne paks the size they are today, fitting everything into the fuselage is a snap.

I have 2 of these kits sitting waiting to be built. Both were bought off eBAY for $50 and $75 respectively.

I've modified the original plans to incorporate seperate aileron servos but have retained the mechanical coupled flaps and elevator...no sense adding another servo, eh?

Power will be supplied by an HP Silver Eagle .40 while the other will have a piped, ST .40.

Whoever gets the kit you're advertising, advise them to build it light and use as light a covering material/film as possible.

PM,

Do those original kits follow the classic Nobler lines? The re-issue of several years back (which I suspect is what elenasgrumpy is referring to) just looked... well... wrong. I was going to build one when I heard the announcement. But the airplane just doesn't LOOK like a Nobler; plus, the retracts and other design mods simply turn me off.

I'd always heard that the need to make the wing removeable is what caused lots of headaches on the R/C Nobler. I also heard it was a real chore , as you indicated, to get the radio gear in.

The original Aldrich Nobler has lines that surpass the word "classic". The Top Flite/Great Planes re-release looks like it was designed by committee...[&o]

LOL...

I couldn't agree more! The removeable wing issue is curious though. At only around 50". this one sits right in the trunk, one piece. I always found THAT feature one of the best!

Yes, mine are the original, 1st revision for RC that Top Flite released. This has always been my favorite RC flyer. The plane is a rock solid platform and flies circles around newer designs. Retracts??? Booo...:-)

I forgot to mention another big point: SIDE-MOUNTED engine. Inverted 2-strokes are a PITA~!

I sawed the 2 maple engine bearers off flush with the firewall and added a glass/nylon motor mount. Changed the nose blocks around so the "look" remains intact.

I've traced all the parts off onto Kraft Freezer paper. Not wanting to build the kits themselves, I've been building, clones. Actually, the 1/16" wing spar is best replaced with 1/16" basswood. The weight gain is minimal but the gain in strength is significant.

If you have a band saw or a good scroll saw, I'd be happy to send you a set of tracings for $5. This would be for postage mainly. The Kraft paper irons right onto the wood so cutting the "kit" is a breeze! Easiest scratch build ever...You can download the original plans and construction manual from Top Flites website. Tres' convenient, eh?

The hardware is another matter. You'll have to discover what's needed from the plans and manual.

Thanks for the offer, but I've got too many other projects in mind.

Appreciate your satisfying my curiosity.

No problem. Just thought you might be interested in building one.

Never a shortage of "projects-in-mind" in this hobby!

Have a good one
