Suggesting my 2nd kit?
I just finished my 1st kit,a Tower Uproar.
Haven't flown it yet,bad weather. What kit do you suggest now? I saw many SIG kits in the field, and i think i love them!:D Also, Greatplanes has many kits. But are they laser cut? Kostas |
RE: Suggesting my 2nd kit?
I don't think GP has entered the laser-cut phase of the 21st century - yet - but they do build into some nice kits.
What type of flying/building do you want to do? And what size? |
RE: Suggesting my 2nd kit?
I did a lot of Great Planes models and I can say this brand is easy to build and fly.
Sig is very hard to build. Tiger 2 fron Carl Goldberg is a very good bird and you can build very quick. |
RE: Suggesting my 2nd kit?
I think it all comes down to the type of flying you want to do. There are some nice kits from several companies. I am partial to Sig because of their laser cutting and good quality wood. Their airplanes also seem to turn out a bit lighter for me. Since you have the Uproar, take alook at the Sig Somthin Extra. It is a blast to fly. If you want to consider the 1/2A world, I've been impressed with Herr Engineering kits. I built their 1/2A Mustang; it was a fast, smooth build and flies great.

The Sig SE makes a fine second kit for building and flying.

RE: Suggesting my 2nd kit?
Great Planes kits are not laser cut.

RE: Suggesting my 2nd kit?
i'm currently building a great planes super skybolt and while not ALL the parts are laser cut it does have it's share of blackened edges. i can't remember which ones are laser and which are die cut but i do know that they have some pieces laser cut.
Sig is very hard to build. |

ORIGINAL: blw The Sig SE makes a fine second kit for building and flying. Definitely. I have a few choices to take out and fly but I always gravitate toward my S.E. My current one has a Super Tigre .45 with a Macs muffler. People are supprised that it's fairly fast, inspite of the thick wing. When my new one is complete, I'll probably run a 4-stroke of some sort. I'm also thinking about adding counterbalance to the rudder & elevator and moving the servos to the rear. |

RE: Suggesting my 2nd kit?
just thought of this...........
THIS IS NOT SOMETHING YOU WANT TO DO FOR A SECOND PLANE!!!!!!! one of the guys that fly with us built a sig se......he had the nerve to order and install a tower hobbies .75 on it! talk about fast... this motor isn't even broke in and it's already got unlimited vertical...it'll go straight up almost as fast as it does foward. i still haven't figured what possessed him to do this but he loves it. i've got a tower hobbies .75 of a 4*60 and it'll go vertical almost out of sight. this is a perfect setup for a second plane. |
RE: Suggesting my 2nd kit?
4* 60 is laser cut,right?
How about the Sig Cub kit 40 size? Is this laser cut? Is it easy to build as a 2nd kit? |
RE: Suggesting my 2nd kit?
Another vote for the Sig Somethin' Extra kit.

The 40 size Extra, Slow Poke Sport 40, Super Sportster 60, and T-Craft are also die cut. My kit building experience is limited but so far I haven't had any big issues with die cut parts. |
RE: Suggesting my 2nd kit?
A .75? MY ST .45 makes this plane scream and it has excellent vertical

ORIGINAL: Kostas1 4* 60 is laser cut, right? How about the Sig Cub kit 40 size? Is this laser cut? Is it easy to build as a 2nd kit? I'll throw in for the SE and any of the 4 stars The Mid star is also a easy build, I've got a thread on it in this forum Also see the BTE Venture |
RE: Suggesting my 2nd kit?
I could be wrong, but isn't the Great Planes RV-4 and Ultrasport 40 Plus laser cut kits? I had an US 40+ kit but sold it to a buddy since he needed a kit to build. I thought it was laser cut, but I'm not sure now.
The Sig Kavalier is also a builders kit. That was my first kit. It wasn't that hard to build. The instructions were very good. |
