Fixing Wing Mount Blocks

Or..... The Adventures of an extra Chopstick :)

OK TF Contender build going along smoothly until I drilled the maple wing mount blocks and they did not match up to the wing holes...Argggg. After fiddling and scratching my head, I headed out for Sushi with my wife. I pondered the error for a few hours over a drink or four and some great Sushi, I came home and stared at the 1/4 inch holes and wondered how to fix it. This morning I was cleaning the counter when I happened along the extra pair of chopsticks and noticed that they were tapered and they might just slide into the holes. Sure enough, the did, So I whipped up some 30 minute epoxy, trimmed the chopsticks to size, lathered them with epoxy and put the into the holes to cure. I made sure that the hole was completely filled with epoxy and there you go. new wing bolt blocks. I'll update you on the hole drilling later today...

Were the chopsticks hard wood? Hardwood dowels work great for problems like yours. Make sure they are hard wood, though. You don't want the threads stripping and ripping out in a high G manuever. The dowels work well for fixing firewall boo boos as well. Good Luck.

I don't see why everyone gets all fired up about that Sushi stuff. I bought some at the grocery store once. Took it home and cooked it, but it just tasted like fish.

Yes the chopsticks were hard wood. I redrilled also slowly increasing the size of the drill and they came out fine and match up perfect now. Now it's covering time, been 6 years since the last time I covered a plane.
