Even if the 46 would hover your SSE it won't do it with authority and would require wideopen throttle.

:eek:I think you missed 2 posts. One said he hovered at 1/3 throttle and mine hovers at about 1/2. Seems like authority.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for over powering a plane, but if this plane is built light, it will fly just fine on a .46. If you make a lead sled, yes, you will need more power, just like any model. I overpower almost every plane I have, except this one.

I was given mine after a friend got tired of repairing it after crashes. The last one of his was from a hover. I cut off the nose, replaced the bottom of the fuselage to the gear. Put in a new gear with nylon bolts. New cheeks. Cut off the top and made a hatch from the firewall to the turtledeck. Big repair job on the wing. I had a midair with another SE an had to do a lot of wing repair. Made a new aileron. I stalled it turning final approach one evening when it suddenly got real dark and I could hardly see the plane. Lots of rudder repairs then. It has probably been crashed 5 times from what we know and is covered in Monokote, Econokote, and Ultracote for now.

I'm going to order the kit next week and build my own.

I've got two of these kits waiting to be built. I owned the ARf version for a while and it was an excellent airplane. I ran a super tigre GS-45; it was plenty fast and had great vertical using an 11x5 and sometimes an 11x6. As far as modifications, I'm thinking about counter-balanced tail surfaces. People say they knife edge better that way. Of course, mine knife-edged fine just like it was on high rates. I'm also going to look into different landing gear and possibly moving the rudder and elevator servos to the rear. I don't want ot get too crazy changing the kit though; I just want a fun little airplane that I'm not afraid to fly every weekend.

If a 46 will hover the SSE at 1/3 throttle the Tower 75 will hoover it at idle.

Probably. I've never tried to hover my SE. I've mostly just done a lot of knife-edges, stall turns, snap rolls, inverted flight, spins and stuff like that

ChuckW that is what this planes is made for, not 3D and that is why I love it. It will out fly most 3D planes on the manouvers you mentioned. It truly loves to fly fast or slow it doesn't matter. The only plane that I have experienced that is better is the GP Ultra Sport.

Buzz- the Ultra Sport or US Plus? I read some comments that indicate the Plus may be one of those good kits that nobody notices. I had the Plus kit but sold it to a friend who wanted to build it. He crashed it on the first flight and I didn't get to see it.

I agree 100%. I've never even thought about 3D stuff with my SE. It's just a blast to take out on a Sunday and toss around the sky and enjoy. I like the fact that it's very aerobatic but still fairly easy to fly. I have two kits... one just in case I crash the first.

I am building an Ultra Sport Plus now and this is the one I had previously. I am adding 3 inches to the fuse and will make other modifications as I go to help with a larger engine (maybe Tower 75 ??). The Ultra Sport has a better airfoil that allows better faster flight and still retaing great slow speed flight as well. Another thing about the Ultra Sport Plus is it has counterballancers on the rudder and elevator. One negative thing about the Great Planes kits is Heavy Wood. SIG has the best wood compared to Great Planes.

So you think the US+ is better all around than the SE? Interesting. Why are you adding 3" to fuselage? You have me thinking about buying another kit.

I am thinking the 3 inches will add just a little to the stability and help counter the torque of a larger engine. I am considering engines like the Saito100, Evolution 100, Tower 75, Magnum 91and all larger two stroker with tuned pipe. The plane I had previous was flown with Saito 80,91 and OS 61FX. The Ultra Sport didn't back up from any of these engines and seemed to want more. The only think with 40 size planes and large engines is vertical, you can see the torque there more than any other time. Even a plane with the proper size engine will pull to one side then.

Okay, I see what you mean. I'm having problems with that on a pattern plane now. I have to pull the engine out anyways and I'll shim the emgine mount for more right thrust when I do. I've tried pmixing it, but have never quite gotten it where I like it.
