Well I finally talked the wife into eating off the TV trays for awhile. I went and picked up a couple ceiling tile to pin to. Works ok, doesn't hold real tight though. Due to work area restrictions, I could only go one wing panel at a time.
This being my first kit in almost 10 years I am taking it slow. about 4 hours for the one panel. (plus the 2 kids wanting this and that took away some time.)
I am really suprised at how everything fell out of the stock sheets. I went to look thru the parts and ended up with the majority of them falling loose onto the table.
The instuctions are pretty good on this one. At least so far I cannot tell I made any mistakes. The only changes I am going to make are to the rudder/fin and the stab/elevator. I'm going to enlarge and counterbalance the controls on them. The rest looks like it will be fine per plans.

The SE was the first kit I built in about 6 years, and I'm glad it was. Very easy build, and the laser cutting was awesome. The wings build up very straight, and to this day, my SE is the best plane I've ever flown. Good luck with it, I'm sure you wont be disappointed!

I agree that the ceiling tile leaves a little to be desired. I'm gonna try gyp next time. I'm sanding the SE now and also enlarged the control surfaces. I hope it flies as well as it builds, and by all accounts it does. Hog bipe up next! Enjoy.

Homasote, has been the best thing I have ever used.

Well I've finished the wings and tail surfaces. Just stuck the doublers on the fuse sides and waiting for this to dry. This is an extreamly easy plane to put together. I was a little scared of the wing tube set up, but it looks like it is almost idiot proof. Of course I have to get the fuse done and see if it all fits together yet.

I have no idea what Homasote is. :(
Im on my 6th plane now and have found 1/2" gyp board, (drywall) placed on top of my building board, a 4'x8' plywood table with a 3'x8' solid core maple door, works fantastic.
T-pins go in and hold very well and, its heavy enough to lie flat without having to attatch the drywall with screws ect..
Its extremely cheap, about $6 and available immediately within a few miles of nearly every home. ;)
Thats my take, its all I think Ill ever need, however, like I said, Im not familiar with the Homasote, I typed in my zip in the above site given to see where its available and apparently, its not available in the 38305 zip.

Homasote is recyceld paper, compressed into something very similar to the wood most put it together furniture is (i think its called MDF) The old fashion bullitin boards (not cork) were made of the same type of material. Holds pins real well, and lasts a super long time. The piece my father had was ginven to him by a lady who's husband had passed away. He had used it for years, then we built 4 or 5 gliders and 5 or 6 glow planes on. The only reason we got rid of it was me and my brother used it to throw our chinese stars at it in the back yard. (worked good for that too. :D)

I'll try and get some pics up tomorrow. Should have the fuse almost finished as well then.

I didn't enlarge or counter balance the tail feathers,but I will probably re do them. Just got to building and decided not to. Now I'm rethinking it again. :rolleyes:

HOMOSOTE
 

Homosote is recycled paper pressed into a 1/2"X4'X8' sheet. It is used as an insulating sheet in some types of home construction. It also can be covered with fabric and used as a bullitin board. Most lumber yards, Lowes, or Home Depot should carry it.
MDF-(medium density fiberboard) is not the same thing. It is used in the manufacture of most RTA (ready to assemble) furniture. It is considerably more dense than homosote; and I wouldn't suggest using it for a building board unless you plan on pushing your pins in with a hammer. It would make a nice workbench top, however. As long as you don't get it wet; it will swell up a lot!

i am to the point of just starting the covering
hers a little advice that gave me problems on the fuselage when i covered the front cowl over the fuel tank there need's to be maybe to 2 former's under the sheeting as i used rubber ban's around the fuse- to pull down the sheeting it warped down so bade i had to cut it off and replace the sheeting.but other then that the kit went to gather nicely

To late :( . Actually I stuffed a 10 oz tank in there, so with that and some foam it kept it pretty well formed. I have covered my wings, and I am getting ready to glue on the tail faethers so I can get to the fuse, then finish my wings. Here is what I have so far, both need touching up, but they are almost done. need the fuse to see where everything will go on the other side of the wing.

It' all hand cut, I used Pearl green Ultracote for the base green, and metallic green monokote for the darker green. Then it's trimmed with white monokote and again with yellow and chrome monokote to give it the "wet " look. It took some time to do, but came out worth it.
The Dr Pepper side is Metallic Red Monokote, with Missel red monokote for the trim (no pearls or metallics close enough to the color I needed) White monokote for the letters with black trim.
I glued up the tail feathers today so I should get the fuse finished by friday, I'll post the whole plane when I get it done.

The real bummer is I have to finish covering the rudder, Elevator, and ailerons and that will require me to buy another roll of dark red. For just that little bit. Might just splice together some scraps instad of paying 13 bucks for another roll
