Has anyone ever tried to drill out the standard Hobbico 5/32" wire retract to accept a 3/16" strut?

I run Hobbico retracts in a TF (red box) P-51B Mustang. The mod sounds like a good idea. We have paved runway and I land very well however my retracts have seen hundreds of landings and they contantly need tweeeeeeking. I don't taxi after landing and my take-offs are as short as needed. They are a pain. I'm currently trying to get new Hobbico struts. Let me know where you got the 3/16" struts!!!!

Got the 3/16" struts at my LHS which in my case happens to be RC Buyers Warehouse in Nashua, NH. They ship UPS all over. (603) 595-2494
By the way, I e-mailed Hobbico to see if they have heard of this mod before. They would not commit themselves either way because of liability consequences.

One of the tech support guys at the big Canadian mail-order dealers said this mod was done at his club field regularly with good results,
