Goldberg Ultimate

Hi all,

I'm in the finishing stages of building a Goldberg Ultimate, the first version of the kit. I've heard stories of the undercarriage being pretty weak. Any-one here have that experience, and whta did you do?

Also, any other tips on building this model would be appreicated. Power is an OS 91Fx;

Thanks,

Good question. The l/g area needs to have ply reenforcements all around and triangle wedges in each of the corners. Use a HD epoxy High shear one and coat all the joints. Other wise use f/g tape as reenforcement. Otherwise let all your landings be three pointers.

When I bought my Ultimate the gear had been torn out in a hard landing. I think extra support on the gear mounts would be a good idea. This is a great flying plane. I have a Saito 150 on mine which is kind of overkill. I got a good deal on the motor so I thought what the heck??? I completly stripped and recovered the plane and it is ready to go.

I had the same problem, reinforcing is a good idea. I also had major flutter problems, the next one I build will have 4 airleron servos and rear mounted servos for the tail surfaces. Otherwise it was one of nicest flying kits I ever built.

Good luck

I haven't finished mine yet, but one of the things I was told while asking around
was to reinforce the area under where the center struts mount to the fuse,
apparently this area is quite susceptable to breakage should the plane flip over
on landing. If you study it you can see why, the way it's designed to bolt to
the fuse creates a leverage moment at that point. You can easily reinforce this
area by putting some corner gussets next to the attachment point with very
little weight added. My other ultimate has the struts running straight down
parallel with the side of the fuse and doesn't have this weak point.
