Any of you guys use a sullivan tail wheel bracket instead of the stock one that came with the kit. If you haven't, have you heard any pros and or cons on the sullivan bracket mounted on other planes? Thanks

I have that tail wheel bracket on two of my tail draggers they work great. They are easy to install and the spring to the rudder takes the stress off of it. Most of the guys at our field use them.

I am installing one on my 4*60. Only thing is seems like I can't use the supplied blind nuts as the width of the tailwheel mount is a little narrow. So I'll have to use self-tapping screws

Did you add plywood reinforcement like the directions say to, or did you just mount to the balsa?

you should have the ply reinforcement 1/8 inch thick min

I have installed this on my Four Star 40.

I have a question about keeping the wheel on. I have some wheel collars, but they are of a bigger diameter. Instead of going out to buy some new wheel collars, is there another way to keep the wheel on?

I have tried to bend the wire up, but it's a bit tough, and I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions.

After I get this figured out, I just have to mount my canopy, and it's ready to fly!

I have the Sullivan tailwheel on my newest taildragger and it worked great. It even handled coming in deadstick on it's maiden flight without a problem. As for holding on the wheel, the only thing I could come up with is go buy the smaller wheel collars.

I tend to change all the tailwheels out. I use the Klett, CBA, Sullivan and others. There is nothing more frusterating than using a cheap tailwheel bracket and having it break on the way to the field. I use good ones that mount to the bottom of the fuse and plant a pad for them to screw into in the fuse. Makes a lot more sense.

Instead of the wheel collars on the smaller 40-60 sized tailwheels, I usually solder small washers to the wire in the neccessary places (each side of the wheel, above and below the bracket, etc). Use a piece of a business card to keep the heat away from the tailwheel or plastic parts. If you have to remove it, just heat it up again.

I use the Sullivan on my GP Extra and it seems to do ok. I agree that I always upgrade the tail wheel, and anything else for that matter that might be below par.
