beechcraft stagger wing
Does anybody know of a company making a kit for a staggerwing or anywhere to get plans? preferably 40 to 60 size.

RE: beechcraft stagger wing
Top Flite is making a kit, but it requires a 1.60. Nice plane from the looks. Vintage R/C Plans has a 1/6 scale set of plans that are very complete. Four large sheets that include a lot of detail and includes It is a 64" span model. Again though it requires a .70 to .80 engine. I would power it with at 1.2 four stroke. I would guess that you are looking at around a 48" span model for the 0.60 size.
I spent a lot of time eariler this year looking for plans, but my requirements were a minimum of 1/6 scale as I wanted to put a 1/6 scale P&W Wasp Jr. engine that I was going to make in it. I've put that idea on the back burner for now. Another approach is to get a set of drawings from the San Diego Aerospace Museum and draw up you own plans. I've got a wireframe for the fuselage done in Rhino 3d using those drawings. Lots and lots of work. Hope I get to use it some day. Don |
RE: beechcraft stagger wing
As I recall, I have an old issue of RCM featuring a built up version of the Staggerwing, pulling out the cobwebs of my memory, I believe the last name was Denison or something along those lines that published the article. And of course the magazine i is "buried" in all my hobby stuff so its is not handy. It was on the front cover of the magazine and believe it was a light yellow/orange in color.
It was for a .60 to .90 size engine. My suggestion is to go to R.C.M. website and check on their plans. As I understand they are still producing plans at this time, but I may be in error though. |

Thanks for the help guys. Campgems I would love to see the wasp if you have started anything on it! Do you have any plans or anything? I work at P&W in East Hartford CT. I may be able to help you with something.

If you can one, Royal/Maratuka had a kit in the size you desire.

RE: beechcraft stagger wing
Race66 the staggerwing you are referring to is the .60 size in Dec'75 issue. I'm looking to build a .60 size staggerwing myself. The Ray Dehn plans in RCM (pl-620) call for foam core wings and are 25.00 usd. The Ziroli plans are about 50 bucks and would need to be scaled down. I have yet to look at any other plans. I would like as much info as I can get before I get started. I'd like to find a set of Royal plans, I hear they are good and much cheaper than Ziroli. I'd just go for the Ray Dehn plans except I'd have to convert to built up wings instead of foam wich I could do but seems like alot of trouble. If I go Ziroli or Royal the plans need to be scaled...either way I guess the plans would need modification for size or wing construction. Any info you guys have would be appreciated.
